Position Summary
The Pharmacy Lab Technician program part-time Laboratory Technologist (PhT Lab Tech) will assist students in the program to meet previously determined learning outcomes identified in program course outlines. The PhT Lab Tech will assist and guide the student’s performance in the laboratory setting and assist with activities, demonstrations, and equipment set up. This also includes ordering, organizing, and maintaining learning tools, equipment and supplies, as well as tracking and keeping a current record of inventory. As part of this role, the PhT Lab Tech is responsible for ensuring that pharmacological safety, biosafety, and biosecurity practices are accurate and complete including compliance with licenses and regulatory requirements as per the Public Health Agency of Canada ( PHAC ), Ontario College of Pharmacists, the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities ( NAPRA ), and the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs ( CCAPP ). This will also include the maintenance and upkeep of equipment related to pharmacology security, biosafety, and biosecurity. The PhT Lab Tech works under the direction of the Program Coordinator, and Faculty, to provide mastery of learning opportunities for students. The PhT Lab Tech will also liaise with management, support staff, housekeeping personnel, and contractors on ensuring lab maintenance and safety. The PhT Lab Tech will be responsible for the pharmacy lab spaces including, but not limited to, rooms R201 and R215.

- PropolRx pharmacy data base system · Kroll pharmacy data base systems; · Medi Tech; · PacMed hospital dispensary systems;
Field(s) of Study
- Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists as a Part A Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) or as a Part A Registered Pharmacist (RPh) · CPR HCP /First Aid; · annual WHMIS training and review of Safety and Manuals, · PHAC E-training (principles of laboratory safety and cross contamination)
Experience
Typical number of years of experience, in addition to the necessary education level, required to perform the responsibilities of the position
Minimum of five (5) years
Type of Experience
Recent practical experience including knowledge of the fundamental pharmacy concepts, skills and techniques of RPhT practice, NAPRA and CCAPP standard knowledge, strong communication, interpersonal and computer skills
Recent practice experience as an RPhT in an acute care or community settings requiring current knowledge and skill related to Pharmacy Technician procedures. Hands on technical experience working in labs with technology and equipment
Variety of mixed modality laboratory equipment and software (PacMed, PropelRX, Kroll, and Meditech)
Preferred experience in a hospital pharmacy lab with experience in the delivery and debriefing of laboratory scenarios
Preferred experience in a community pharmacy setting with experience in providing patient education and point of service care.
