Trylon is looking for a confident Structural Detailer to join our Product Engineering team in Elmira, Ontario. As part of our team you demonstrate natural interpersonal skills, an ability to provide effective and ongoing development process, product and system improvements, as well as the capacity to learn and provide technical knowledge.
Our ideal candidate has 5 – 7 years’ experience in the communications tower or steel fabrication industry as a Structural Detailer. Looking forward, this position could lead to a management position within the structural detailing group.
Day to Day Includes:
- Co-ordination with Project Managers to ensure accurate scope of work.
- Preparation of structural details, bills of materials, fabrication and erection drawings.
- Review and checking of work produced by other structural detailers and ongoing coaching to more junior detailing technologists.
- Provide effective and ongoing development improvements to processes, products and systems.
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Structural Detailing.
Required Skills:
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to complete and manage large complex projects with little or no supervision.
- Excellent design, development and problem-solving skills, with a high degree of knowledge in standard detailing practices related to structural steel fabrication.
- Efficient at performing quantity take-offs for development of materials lists.
- Adept in dealing with customers, management and colleagues.
- Capable of providing training, guidance and support to other Structural Detailing Technologists.
- Ability to climb tower structures is considered an asset.
- Flexibility to travel from time-to-time on short cycle out-of-country projects and training.
- Experience in a management role and development of people and/or teams is considered a strong advantage.
Education and Experience:
- Must have a recognized three-year Construction, Civil, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Technology diploma from an accredited Community College.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working in the communications tower industry.
- Minimum 5 years as a Structural Detailer or similar in a structural steel detailing environment.
- Experience in reading construction and fabrication drawings.
- Experience should include CSA-S16.1 Limit States Design of Steel Structures.
- Experience with Solid Works and Visual Manufacturing would be considered an asset.
- Experience with CSA S37 Antennas, Towers, and Antenna-Supporting Structures; TIA-222 Structural Standards for Steel Antenna Towers and Antenna Supporting Structures would be considered an advantage in the recruiting process.
