Job Summary
Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Assistant will provide research and administrative support, as well as a number of day-to-day operations of the research laboratory. The primary responsibility of the Research Assistant will be to assist with the administration and research efforts for the Health Behaviours in School-Aged Children (HBSC) Study, including but not limited to: completion of jurisdictional and research committee applications, preparation and editing of data collection and recruitment documents, and follow up with schools to facilitate completion of the survey. The Research Assistant will work collaboratively with other members of the Bully Lab Laboratory, which includes a multidisciplinary team of research collaborators, trainees and staff, including post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduate students, research and administrative staff. The Research Assistant will also work alongside members of the HBSC team, including research staff at Queen’s and other universities.
Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Coordinate and collect supporting information for the submission of ethics applications, ensuring that application guidelines and timelines are met. Responsible for tracking progress and following up on applications.

Assist with participant recruitment for the HBSC study, including enrollment of participating schools, and preparing documents and study material to ensure compliance.
-
Build surveys and data management.
-
Assist in research tasks required in implementation of the study protocols (i.e., communicating with school boards, ethics offices, background work for participant recruitment).
-
Support preparation for data collection using qualitative and quantitative strategies.
-
Maintain the HBSC Study website.
-
Perform administrative duties such as organizing meetings and appointments, managing mail, filing, photocopying, faxing, and ordering supplies, and equipment. Prepare or, if routine, initiate correspondence, notes and memos.

Assist in writing reports under the supervision of an investigator.
-
Prepare the financial claims required for reporting to the funder.
-
Assist in the preparation of grants, letters, school reports, and government reports.
-
Assist with research ethics board submissions by completing forms as per protocols developed by the investigator/study team.
-
Conduct literature searches and reviews using electronic library databases (pubmed, web of science). This will involve looking up references and books, and summarizing articles.

Assist in writing reports and supporting knowledge dissemination with the findings of the study.

Coordinate work of project volunteers and student staff.
-
Undertake other activities as delegated in support of the lab and project.

Translate documents into French
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
Post-secondary program in a Psychology and/or research related field; Honours Degree and completed honours thesis an asset.

Previous relevant experience (2-3 years) in a research environment or related field an asset.
-
Knowledge and experience using TRAQ Researcher Portal is considered an asset.
-
Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
-
Speaking French considered an asset.
-
Experience in an administrative role considered an asset.

DECISION MAKING:

- Identify and communicate to the PI any potential concerns with experimental protocol and/or research timelines
- Assist in the generation of various documents and reports and provide input where appropriate.
- Determine appropriate formatting for simple to complex documents.
- Respond to general inquiries, providing reasonable answers, or a means to find an answer if necessary. Redirect problems to PI when applicable.
- Determine and report any potential issues with equipment to the PI (or designate).
