It’s an exciting time to join BBC News’s digital team in North America. We've doubled in size in two years and are expanding in Canada—our second-largest market outside the UK. Based in Toronto, you’ll work with a dynamic team of editors and reporters, plus colleagues across the US and globally. Your journalism will reach a loyal, engaged audience across platforms—from TikTok to World Service Radio—making a global impact every day.
Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
- Deliver compelling, accessible digital journalism—from fast, accurate breaking news to in-depth features—on a wide range of topics relevant to Canadian and global audiences.
- Generate sharp, original story ideas that reflect Canada’s diverse news agenda, from politics and natural disasters to pop culture and sport.
- Write with speed, clarity and creativity, turning complex issues into engaging content across formats and platforms.
- Bring strong editorial judgement and a deep understanding of Canadian news, backed by solid contacts and a global perspective.
- Collaborate with BBC teams in Toronto, the US, and worldwide, using our global resources to produce distinctive, high-impact journalism.
Essential Criteria YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience as a digital reporter, with a strong track record of breaking news and delivering original, high-impact journalism.
- Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to turn complex topics into clear, engaging content across formats.
- Deep understanding of the Canadian news landscape, with strong editorial judgement and a wide network of contacts.
- Creative and confident self-starter, able to generate fresh angles that drive the story forward and work independently under pressure.
- Familiarity with using social media, search and audience data to improve storytelling and broaden audience reach
