Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor or Foreman, the Plant Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs on plant equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations. Primary duties include:

  • Assist Millwrights and Plumbers in repairing and replacing components using tools (e.g., wrenches, screwdrivers, grease guns) and equipment (e.g., chain hoists, forklifts, cranes).
  • Conduct Preventative Maintenance (PM) inspections, considering seasonal conditions, lifecycle forecasting, and manufacturer-recommended maintenance procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including checking and replacing belts, changing oil, and replacing air and glycol filters.
  • Prepare work areas for confined space entry, including acquiring permits, testing air quality, and setting up tripods.
  • Complete required documentation, including work performed, equipment faults, work orders, and parts orders.
  • Oversee contractor work, ensuring they have necessary resources and are following safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED) and at least 1 year of experience working in an industrial, manufacturing or mechanical environment.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Must be able to qualify for Confined Space Entry Certification.
  • The ability to use power tools is essential in this position.
  • Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • You demonstrate excellent problem solving and building maintenance skills.

Working Conditions: Work involves exposure to all weather conditions, confined space entries, dust, noise, chemicals, hazardous and explosive gases, odors, wastewater, wet conditions and possible electric shock. Individuals may be required to enter and perform work in safety sensitive areas and confined spaces. Potential for half or full-face mask will be required and training provided.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
