About the role

MHI Low Carbon Solutions Canada, ULC, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA)is looking for a Senior Process Engineer tojoin our team. This position is full-time, five (5) days per week out of the Calgary, Alberta office.

The Sr. Process Engineer (P.Eng.) plays a critical role in ensuring engineering excellence, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across Canadian carbon capture projects. The Sr. Process Engineer will primarily be responsible for authenticating process engineering deliverables and applying the APEGA stamp. Additionally, the Sr. Process Engineer will serve as a key technical liaison—leading discussions with clients and partners—and will support internal project teams throughout all phases of execution, including commissioning, operations, and maintenance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Responsible Member under the APEGA Permit to Practice, including the application of the Permit Holder stamp on all applicable engineering deliverables.
  • Authenticate engineering work (including P.Eng stamp application on deliverables) in compliance with APEGA standards and regional regulatory requirements for projects executed in Japan, Canada, or the United States.
  • Provide technical support to project and engineering teams across Japan, Canada, and the United States.
  • Lead and facilitate technical meetings and discussions with internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners.
  • Prepare process engineering calculations and technical documents, with a focus on design optimization, value engineering, and continuous improvement.
  • Offer expert technical support during commissioning, start-up, and ongoing plant operations and maintenance.
  • Deliver continuous operational support, including documentation of lessons learned, development of best practices, and recommendations for future project enhancements.
  • Collaborate with teams in Japan and the U.S. to support the standardization of process engineering practices.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives by offering technical insight and support aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences through attendance, preparation, and presentation of technical content.
  • May be required to obtain P.Eng. licensure in provinces outside Alberta to support or prepare for projects in those jurisdictions.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Chemical Engineering required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Commissioning experience and/or chemical plant operation experience desired.
  • Skills/training/certifications:
  • Valid Professional Engineer, P.Eng, license currently registered in APEGA and transferable to other Canadian provinces by comity.
  • Proficient in the use of process simulation tools such as ASPEN, Pro/II, ProMax, or equivalent software.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both in writing and verbally. Must be able to adapt communication style to suit various audiences and levels within the organization.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications and comfortable using other software as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel: Up to 25% domestic or international travel may be required.
  • Weekend/late night work: Due to the time zone difference between Calgary and Japan, employees should expect 2–3 days per week where meetings are scheduled during evening hours (typically between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM).
  • Lifting/physical requirements: Regularly required to sit for long period, stand, walk, talk and/or hear. Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
