Hoarding Support Worker – Employment Support Program (4 Month Contract)

The Role and Opportunity

The Canadian Mental Health Association is looking for a supportive Hoarding Support Worker (HSW) to assist vulnerable seniors with mental health challenges to de-clutter, sort and organize their homes into a safe living space. The HSW will work with the Extreme Cleaning and Hoarding Supports program and will be responsible for supporting clients to restore their living spaces to a safe and healthy condition through the removal of items in a sensitive manner, and always being mindful of the client’s needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Program Manager of the Employment Services, the Hoarding Support Worker (HSW) will work under the supervision of the employment team in a collaborative manner. They will be required to participate in team meetings and provide regular updates to managers. The Hoarding Support Worker will assist seniors with mental health challenges and work with them in their homes to create clear and safe living spaces.

This will involve assisting clients with de-cluttering and organizing their homes as well providing follow up support as needed. The role will also involve instructing a team of cleaners on what duties need to be performed in the client’s homes. The role requires for a high level of confidentiality when dealing with client information as well as keeping accurate recording and documentation of notes. The HSW will also need to be comfortable accessing and liaising with community supports including Toronto Fire and By-Law officers.

SKILLS YOU BRING

CMHA Toronto’s ideal candidate will have a Diploma in Social Service Worker, Community Service Worker or related degree. Experience in community mental health would be considered an asset as well as understanding the needs of individuals living with mental health challenges. The candidate will bring a solution focused approach to work and the ability to manage crisis, excellent communicate skills. The candidate will also be required to have a valid Ontario Driver’s License, access to a vehicle and insurance coverage.

Hourly Rate: $26.59 + 4% vacation pay
