Know our team
Nutrition International’s Programs Unit is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of Nutrition International’s core program interventions including program development, design, planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting, and grant management, including setting annual operational planning, budgeting, and review processes. The unit comprises a global team of professionals located in our 10 core countries across Asia, Africa and our headquarters in Ottawa, Canada. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Portfolio Officer, Complex Nutrition to be based in Ottawa, Canada working hybrid 2 days/week in-office. This is a maternity leave cover for 17-18 months with a September start.
About you
You are someone with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public health, international development, or a related field. You have 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience with NGOs, and/or UN agencies focused on public health, food security, and/or nutrition related programming. You are experienced in donor contract management, report development and are proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. You have exceptional written and verbal communications skills, including strong technical writing and presentation capabilities.
Fluency in English is required. French will be considered an asset.
About the role
In this role you will:

Contribute to the design, planning, implementation, and monitoring of assigned projects.

Drive project quality improvements through the project cycle by providing direct operational support to project teams in the field.

Assist the GPD Complex Nutrition with scheduling, meeting coordination, and other administrative tasks.
-
Collaborate with Nutrition International’s technical team to ensure strong technical oversight and quality assurance.

Collaborate with the Monitoring, Data and Learning (MDL) team to ensure monitoring plans are in place, actively utilized, and generating timely, high-quality and project level data.

Conduct variance analysis to monitor budget adherence across projects.

Support project teams in creating and managing annual budgets in Nutrition International systems.

Assist the GDP Complex Nutrition and Project Directors in resolving budgetary issues and when necessary, realignment of project budgets.

Collaborate with Home Office, Africa and Asia teams on new project development opportunities.

Collaborate with project teams and technical advisors to prepare timely and accurate donor reports aligned with Nutrition International’s contractual obligations.

Track and manage report submission using the Report Tracker tool.

Coordinate with internal teams across units to ensure on-time report submissions.

Support project teams in the continuous improvements in reporting processes and content quality.

Collaborate with the project teams and Gender Equality Specialists to ensure gender equality considerations are integrated throughout reports.

Ensure field teams adhere to established contract procedures and proactively seek guidance and quality assurance support from the Procurement and Contracting team.

Identify and resolve contract-related issues promptly, coordinating with project and Corporate Services teams.

Assist project team in enhancing the clarity, structure and strategic alignment of annual workplans.
This position will require infrequent travel upon request to countries in Asia and Africa.
