The main objective and purpose of this position consist in providing safe, efficient, prompt, and courteous pick-up and delivery service for gases, while promoting ALC’s quality and safety objectives.
Adequate customer service:
- Provides prompt and courteous delivery of cylinder gases and/or welding supplies.
- Picks up empty cylinders as required.
- Maintains a personal liaison with Customers, Account Executives, Warehouse, and Customer Service teams.
Loads and unloads trucks:
- Loads and unloads trucks with other team members and ensures trucks are loaded efficiently and in accordance with regulations.
- Pick your own load of cylinders, plan out your day based on items dispatched for you, drive to required sites and pick up empties then offload trucks upon return.
Truck equipment and maintenance:
- Ensures that maintenance and general appearance of the truck and all equipment used in the performance of his/her duties are properly maintained.
- Contacts the CMS team immediately with any system related problems.
Cylinder inspection:
- Inspects all cylinder ships and returns as to the condition and reports any damage by tagging the cylinder and noting the customer information and condition on the tag and any other applicable documents.
- Uses the Quality System to record defective cylinders and customer complaints.
Administrative tasks:
- Issues accurate delivery notes and receipts for all products supplied and returned from customers to assure correct invoicing.
- Maintains accurate truck records, including PANDA, TDG and WHMIS documentation, highway log, and follows all CMS procedures.
Safety/Quality:
- Operates vehicles in a safe manner. Uses all tools, dock plates and tailgates in a safe and careful manner while taking particular care to ensure the personal safety of all people exposed to the said equipment.
- Has full responsibility for cooperating with all aspects of ALC’s safety program.
- Reports all unsafe conditions, and all accidents immediately to his Supervisor or the Safety Champion.
- Advises customers on proper handling and storage of cylinders and reports any safety hazards to his Supervisor.
Shipping/Receiving:
- Prepares cylinders for filling
- Is responsible for the start-up and shut down of filling equipment. Connects cylinders, vents, then purges residual gas using a vacuum pump. Fills cylinders according to the Product Preparation sheet & Product Filling register assigned to the gas being filled. Keeps up with the norms set out for filling and inputs data.
- Records the number of cylinders filled and any discrepancies with respect to the established calendar. Notes irregularities, serial numbers and any pertinent information and sends it to the people in charge.
- Pick the cylinders from a pick list and set up pallets for delivery.
- Work within a high volume environment and be able to prioritize his/her duties
- Being able to move cylinders throughout the Plant
- Performs necessary check of pumps, pressure and liquid level of the vessel(s), scales, gauges and other essential equipment
- Handles, identifies, sorts, prepares and conditions cylinders in a safe manner
- Processes all cylinders through the pre-fill inspection to ensure they are safe to fill and use
- Fills cylinders; reports and records data related to this process
- Performs the required analysis on finished lots of product and distributes when results are met to specifications
- Maintains quality service by following company standards, policies and procedures
- Reports and assists in the investigation of customer complaints, defects; quarantines and notifies supervisor and head of QC of non-conforming product

- DZ Licence with 2 years of driving experience and over 21
- High school diploma
- Forklift experiance
- Record of safe and competent driving as demonstrated on drivers abstract
- Ability to record applicable freight information on portable computers and printers - Electronic Log Experieance
- Ability to match information on freight bill with product on truck (training will be provided)
- Pick up and deliver freight safely and efficiently
- Build and maintain strong, long-term customer relationships
- Must be able to work indoor and outdoors in adverse weather conditions
- Must be physically fit and a quick learner
- Prior experience in Shipping/Receiving is an asset
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs comfortably
