Oil sands development is an important component of CNOOC International’s global portfolio. In Canada, CNOOC Petroleum North America has interest in more than 300,000 acres in the Athabasca region – one of the largest deposits of Canadian oil reserves, where we use technologically advanced production processes such as Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD). Our Long Lake facility, located in northern Alberta just south of Fort McMurray, began producing in 2008 and is a SAGD-only operation for the interim, with production capacity of around 72,000 barrels of bitumen a day.

This position is classified as a Safety-Sensitive Position. In this role, you will participate in our rotating 14x14 shift schedule which requires you to work fourteen 12-hour day shifts (7am – 7pm), followed by fourteen days off. Then you will be required to work fourteen 12-hour night shifts (7pm – 7am), followed by fourteen days off. Schedules are based on business needs and subject to change. We offer free parking at our site or if you’d like us to take the wheel, you can use our daily bus service to/from Fort McMurray

Therefore, we are seeking a Production Supervisor - SAGD Area 1 to join our growing team in Fort McMurray, Alberta. This dynamic role will be instrumental in providing operational leadership and technical expertise to ensure safe, reliable, and optimized production performance in SAGD Area 1 facilities.
Your Background
- Minimum 3rd Class Power Engineering Certification valid in Alberta, 2nd Class certification is preferred.
- 5 years’ experience as a Process Operator within a major process plant operation.
- Experience in well operation, emulsion separation, and de-oiling.
- Delta-V CRO/Panel experience preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication, decision making and problem-solving skills.
- SAP knowledge will be considered an asset.
- A valid Class 5 driver's license is required.
Your Role with Our Team
- Supervision of shift personnel, providing direction and leadership in achieving operational goals and objectives in support of facility objectives and key strategies; includes facilitation of Shift Turnover, Start of Shift Orientation, and Defined Rounds.
- Effective operation of the facility processes and equipment including safety, environmental compliance, training, cost control, and team career development/performance management.
- Identification and follow up on staff opportunities for continuous improvement and development of technical and non-technical human resource core competencies.
- Ensuring compliance with licensing laws, regulations, company policies, safety, and environmental standards and providing timely and effective reporting.
- Establishing and maintaining operating procedures consistent with Facility guidelines and standards.
- Responsible for coordination of shift scheduling including allocation of work, overtime, vacations, etc. to maximize workforce productivity, ensure qualified post coverage, and minimize cost impact.
- Manage abnormal situations by initiating a controlled hierarchy of Stabilize/Slowdown/Shutdown (SSS).
- Participating in and completing required training to achieve a high level of process understanding and technical competency.
- Adherence to all principles of the Production Department Operations Excellence Process.
- Issuance and management of safe work permits; supervision of blanking/blinding activities and the preparation of equipment for maintenance work according to maintenance, reliability, and outage requirements.
- Evaluate knowledge, skills, and abilities of Process Operators and sign off on Job Specific Training (JST) and Critical Skill Assessment Form’s related to the Operator Progression Program.
