The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the appropriate Supervisor, Community Programs this role is responsible for effectively delivering, administering and supervising various recreation initiatives while promoting access and equitable processes for residents. The Programmer provides supervision to volunteers, contract and part time staff and coordinates and oversees work for the various recreation program areas while ensuring customer satisfaction and safety.

As the Programmer, General Programs you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Assist in the planning, development and execution of a variety of recreation programs, services and initiatives, including inclusive opportunities.
  • Analyze and assess recreation program requirements and present recommendations to the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Assist in the identification of trends, demographics and new techniques to determine the needs of the community ensuring that the market is responsive to provided programs.
  • Assist with the execution of marketing and sales plans to maximize revenue, usage and customer service satisfaction.
  • Collect and analyze data related to customer feedback and effectiveness of marketing and sales initiatives.
  • Liaise and represent the Town of Caledon while working with suppliers, schools, businesses and the general community.
  • Assist in the preparation of recreation budgets in consultation with the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Assist in the implementation of policies, procedures and programs that support the delivery of recreation programs.
  • Respond to emergencies, customer inquiries and complaints, and ensure a positive relationship between the public, outside agencies and internal staff at all times.
  • Ensure recreation programs adhere to quality assurance standards (e.g. HIGH FIVE®).
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate contract, volunteer and part time staff.
  • Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a passionate professional with a post-secondary degree or diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies, or closely related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and progressive experience. Our ideal candidate has a minimum one (1) year related experience in a recreation setting, including direct and indirect programming.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated organizational skills with considerable attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. We are seeking an individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to obtain and exchange routine information.

The successful candidate for this position will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

This position offers an hourly range of $33.49 - $41.86.

Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
