Position Summary Project Manager, Facilities Integration, Energy & Sustainability North York General Hospital (NYGH) is implementing its “NYGreen” sustainability program, focused on reducing our environmental footprint and ensuring a healing and supportive care environment, while optimizing facilities base building systems and achieving efficiencies in utility and energy utilization. NYGH is seeking a dynamic Project Manager to lead a broad range of system optimization, sustainability and energy efficiency projects and contribute to our ongoing efforts to lower energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and drive the organization to be more sustainable in all facets of its operations and capital projects. This individual will need to be able to complement their strong technical and engineering knowledge required for energy consumption and efficiency projects with excellent communication and engagement skills required to deliver more broadly focused sustainability projects that will include considerable education, stakeholder engagement, and process change. The individual will be responsible for coordinating and managing the implementation of facilities system optimization, sustainability and energy projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, design, installation, commissioning, and verification. The project manager will also work on the facilities system integration of ongoing major capital projects, including the New Patient Care Tower and the Long-Term Care Development projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects, negotiate effectively, and build consensus. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will

Develop and execute facilities system optimization and sustainability projects aligned with NYGH's capital plans and sustainability goals (with a focus on service delivery and design, supply chain and materials, transportation and commuting, buildings and operations, organizational capacity and policies), including the development and management of:
-
project schedules and workplans;
-
stakeholder engagement plans;
-
implementation plans;
-
business cases;
-
contractual obligations;
-
reporting;
-
evaluation metrics;
-
approvals (internal, regulatory bodies/authorities having jurisdiction);
-
project budgets.

Lead project teams (including hospital staff and consultants) through the full lifecycle of projects (planning, design, implementation, evaluation) in accordance with hospital requirements and applicable codes, standards, and pertinent legislation.

Lead implementation of facilities base building system and sustainability strategy for ongoing capital projects (New Patient Care Tower and the Long-Term Care Development) projects. Support major capital projects, including:
-
review of project documentation including design drawings, specifications, and submittals to identify potential issues, discrepancies, or inefficiencies that could impact building performance (including review of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control systems);
-
review building plans, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure they align with the owner's project requirements and relevant codes and standards;
-
verification of planning to ensure the building meets NYGH's operational requirements (including safety and energy efficiency throughout the project lifecycle, from design to occupancy and beyond);
-
collaboration with project teams including engineers, contractors, and facility managers to verify performance and optimize system functionality.

Work with contractors to ensure the safe and successful delivery of energy savings projects, with consideration for constructability, phasing, infection prevention and control, and other applicable codes, standards and legislation.

Support review and update of NYGH's Energy Conservation and Demand Management (ECDM) Plan; identify projects required to meet minimum savings and estimate the corresponding incentive. Seek funding opportunities and develop applications to various programs to maximize the funding available for energy efficiency and other sustainability projects.

Support ongoing capital planning, redevelopment and facilities projects, advising and engaging with other project teams to ensure the projects embody and deliver on sustainability objectives. This may include identifying opportunities for energy efficiency, working with project leaders and consultants, reviewing design and construction documents, and supporting the implementation and commissioning processes to ensure all projects contribute to NYGH's sustainability goals.

As required, develop and coordinate Request for Qualifications (RFQ), Request for Proposals (RFP), and Request for Tender (RFT) documents for consulting and construction services related to sustainability projects.

Manage energy monitoring, reporting, auditing and procurement activities and the development of an online, real-time metering solution.
-
Track and report on sustainability metrics, including energy consumption, waste reduction, water conservation, and overall environmental impact.

Support advancement of NYGH's Corporate Sustainability Roadmap.
-
Support development of sustainability policies with consideration for design and implementation of capital projects.

Champion environmental sustainability efforts across the organization, including:
-
developing educational resources;
-
managing sustainability focused communication;
-
updating NYGH's sustainability intranet page;
-
planning engagement/outreach events for staff (Earth Week, Bike Month, and others).
Qualifications
- A university degree or college diploma in Engineering or a related field or with equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing multiple simultaneous projects. Energy and sustainability project management experience preferred.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM), LEED, PMP, and/or other related qualifications would be an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental sustainability and energy conservation practices, ideally in a healthcare setting.
- Strong technical background in building systems, including HVAC, building automation systems, and lighting preferred.
- Understanding of applicable building codes and standards (e.g., OBC, CSA, ASHRAE, etc.).
- Outstanding communication skills are essential. Able to use a number of different communication mediums and be sensitive to the impacts of each so that the right combination of medium/message is used.
- Experience in the development of communication strategies, including posters/display material, webpages and presentations.
- Experience developing and presenting business cases.
- Strong analytical skills, demonstrating the ability to analyze and track data and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Demonstrated leadership and consensus building skills, with a lens of strong patient/family focus
- Experience with hospitals or large institutional buildings would be an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of computer programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Canva, and AutoCAD.
- Bilingualism in French/English an asset
