We are looking for a business-minded actuary to handle the pricing for different products. You are more than a pricing actuary, you understand the demands of an external partner, as well as the ins-and-outs of price modelling. You provide excellent actuarial advice and influence decisions using analysis and data. You thrive in a fast paced environment where your opinion and experience are valued.
This position will also be responsible for providing statistical expertise, researching new pricing methods, and ensuring a smooth implementation of rating plans and algorithm changes across Canada. Additionally, you will be expected to provide actuarial expertise related to product design, corporate planning, and underwriting/segmentation analysis.
The ideal candidate is a strong independent contributor with a curiosity about developing pricing strategies for strategic partnerships. While the role will not officially have people leadership responsibility, you will work collaboratively with actuarial and statistical analysts and cultivate a positive and dynamic work environment that values people and achieves outperforming results.

What You’ll Do
- Directly responsible for actuarial methods and assumptions used.
- Develop appropriate systems, processes, and methodologies for analyzing rates and products.
- Work closely with business partners and other teams to develop strategies and deliver pricing changes.
- Work with Analytics to review and implement new enhanced pricing and segmentation models.
- Mentor junior staff and act as a technical expert and mentor
- Ensure all insurance products are developed in line with the Product Development and Management Standard, and the Technical Pricing Standard
- Acquire a deep understanding of your assigned book of business, and the Canadian business in general, to explain the key factors underlying the emerging experience and to provide strategic insights to collaborators.
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of insurance pricing experience or 7+ years of P&C actuarial experience
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ambitious spirit, ability to understand business requirements and turn them into actuarial analysis (and vice-versa)
- Effective negotiation skills with the ability to build consensus and influence optimally.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
- Hands-on experience in scripting/coding, Python as a preference.
- Outstanding analytical skills with a steadfast desire to probe, question, validate and challenge to ensure accurate and insightful analysis.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
