We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Network Operations Lead to oversee the performance, security, and reliability of our enterprise network infrastructure. This role is responsible for managing internal network operations team members, coordinating with third-party service providers, and maintaining strong relationships with key vendors such as Cisco, Beanfield, and Softchoice. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to operational excellence in a 24x7 mission-critical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the network operations team, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Oversee third-party providers responsible for managing network devices.
  • Participate in audits
  • Engage with network service vendors (e.g., Cisco, Beanfield, Softchoice) to ensure service quality and timely support.
  • Ensure all network devices are running the latest OS versions to maintain security and compliance.
  • Perform capacity management to prevent network bottlenecks and ensure optimal performance.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all network elements including:
  • WAN Circuits (L2/L3)
  • Internet Circuits
  • Routers
  • Switches
  • Firewalls
  • Access Points
  • Other network devices
  • Ensure the team adheres to strict Change Management practices and ensure there are no outages as a result of the change.
  • Be available for after-hours on-call support and participate in incident response; issue incident reports as required.
  • Manage business-as-usual (BAU) activities and ensure timely execution.
  • Ensure contracts with third-party vendors are renewed on time.
  • Maintain and track the network operations budget.
  • Design and manage firewall rules and policies.
  • Track and report on performance metrics for BAU activities, including:
  • Uptime SLA’s
  • Total incidents vs. incidents closed within SLA
  • Number of successful vs. failed changes
  • Number of patched vs. unpatched devices
  • Number of devices that are End of Support vs. Supported
  • Status of vulnerability management

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience
  • University degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 9+ years of relevant work experience, including 5+ years in a 24x7 mission-critical enterprise environment.
  • Certifications
  • Cisco certifications
  • Technical Expertise
  • Hands-on experience with SPLUNK, Palo Alto Firewalls, Prisma SASE, and Cisco/Meraki switches and routers.
  • Strong knowledge of network layers, routing, switching, and protocols (TCP/IP, SMTP, HTTP, SFTP, FTP, SSH, TELNET, DNS, DHCP, RIP, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, SNMP, 802.1X, RMON).
  • Experience with complex TCP/IP networks and technologies such as BGP, OSPF, CWDM/DWDM.
  • Proficiency in network fault isolation tools (e.g., SNMP, packet sniffers).
  • Familiarity with networking hardware, cabling technologies, and multiplatform environments.
  • Experience with Incident, Change, and Problem Management processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of network monitoring, performance, and security tools.
  • Understanding of network provider/carrier services and network design principles.
  • Experience applying ITIL best practices is an asset.
