Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

A dedicated team of researchers and clinicians at Waypoint has secured $2.3 million in funding through Ontario’s Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence to establish the Mental Health Anti-Violence Hub for Empowerment, Advocacy, Recovery, and Trauma Support (MHAV-HEARTS). This initiative was created to address critical gaps in mental health services for individuals affected by gender-based violence (GBV). In collaboration with key agencies across Central Ontario and the province, MHAV-HEARTS will become Canada’s first mental health hub focused specifically on GBV, working to close a significant service gap through innovation, advocacy, and partnership.

As part of this important initiative, we are seeking a temporary part-time Communications & Digital Media Specialist – GBV Project to support the overall communications needs of the GBV health hub including public engagement, community outreach and awareness events/campaigns, media strategy and liaising between partners and stakeholders. The Communications and Digital Media Specialist - GBV will also support the development, maintenance and monitoring of the GBV health hub website, social media, the digitization of service maps, care protocols and guidance documents, photography and videography and support for the projects broader internal and external communications activities as needed.

Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church St. Penetanguishene, ON.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Supporting all aspects of communications, including developing and executing communications plans, public engagement and awareness campaigns (video/print/social media), community outreach events and coordinating community panel development to support the GBV health hub's strategic objective to develop a strong profile.
  • Acting as a liaison between the GBV health hub and internal and external partners, supporting effective communication.
  • Planning for, monitoring, and scheduling all channels of communications including the website, media, GBV health hub communications, intranet, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube.
  • Supporting the development, updating and monitoring of the GBV health hub website.
  • Supporting the assessment of needs and work with a design firm and/or other vendors.
  • Facilitating processes to work successfully with internal and external stakeholders on the design, content, content migration and launch of the website.
  • Supporting the GBV health hub's branding to ensure it aligns with branding guidelines as part of the design to increase awareness about the project and services, priorities and successes.
  • Identifying and soliciting ideas for website content by working with internal and external stakeholders and project team.
  • Recognizing risks related to the project timeline and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Managing the GBV health hub online reputation by acting as the first line in responding to feedback and proactively addressing concerns through digital media.
  • Filming, directing, editing and producing quality audio and video media releases, interviews, educational and promotional content to support goals/initiatives, campaigns/events, social media sites and other marketing and communications purposes.
  • Supporting the digitization of the GBV service map output, care protocols and guidance documents.
  • Managers have the right to assign additional duties and schedule alternate work locations based on operational requirements.
  • Performs all work at all times in compliance with all hospital policies and procedures, legislation (Occupational Health & Safety Act, Fire Code, WHMIS, etc) relevant to health and safety, security and potential risk hazards.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Postsecondary education and/or upgrading through courses or equivalent experience in public relations, business communications, media, marketing, web site design and maintenance or other related field.
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail to effectively collect patient information
  • Organizational skills and judgement to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and meet objectives and deadlines
  • Experience in communications plan development and implementation, social media, marketing/advertising, public/media relations and community engagement/outreach required
  • Experience in website general design concepts, content management/maintenance and video/photography production (filming, audio, editing using video editing software) preferred
  • Experience in hospital, health care, or social services communications and public relations preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to listen and communicate effectively, graciously, and professionally with all stakeholders.
  • Strong communications and public relations skills including media relations.
  • Community engagement and outreach event/campaign development and coordination.
  • Graphic design and graphics software programs such as Canva, Publisher and InDesign.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite of products.
  • Branding and identity implementation.
  • Analysis of information into appropriate communications vehicles for different target audiences.
  • Expertise in website management.
  • Expertise in social media best practices and technical skills including planning, content creation, deployment and analysis.
  • Research and interviewing techniques for gathering information.
  • Facilitation skills for engaging individuals and groups in discussion on ways to communicate information internally and externally.
  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results.
  • Excellent organization skills to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects, meeting deadline requirements and be adaptable in a fast paced environment
