REPORTS TO: Service Manager
HOURS: Part-time; primarily evenings and weekends
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE:
The Front of House Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation of food and beverage services at the City Centre Grille, Patio 37, and Langford Lanes. This position requires a dynamic leader who excels in communication, fosters a positive and motivated team environment, fosters a culture of accountability, and consistently upholds operational standards.
Responsibilities include overseeing all facets of guest service, maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, and ensuring staff consistently follow established protocols. The supervisor is expected to lead by example—providing clear direction, offering timely feedback and coaching, and implementing corrective measures when needed. A strong focus is placed on exceptional customer service, fostering team accountability, and creating memorable experiences that exceed guest expectations.
The role also requires a strong commitment to responsible beverage service, ensuring full compliance with all relevant policies and regulations. By balancing leadership, operational excellence, and service quality, the Front of House Supervisor plays a pivotal role in driving guest satisfaction, maintaining high team morale, and fostering a culture of professionalism and hospitality. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations:
- Oversee the daily operations of the Front of House under the guidance of the Service Manager or Assistant Service Manager. This includes supervising staff performance, managing guest flow, ensuring service standards are upheld, and addressing any immediate operational issues. The role also involves supporting team development, reinforcing company policies, and promoting a collaborative and guest-focused environment.
- Monitor Front of House workflow to ensure operational efficiency, identify potential bottlenecks, and proactively resolve challenges as they arise. Support continuous improvement by adjusting processes, reallocating resources, and guiding team members to maintain smooth and effective service delivery.
- Provide hands-on support during peak periods to maintain service efficiency, assist team members, and ensure a seamless guest experience. Step in as needed to manage high-volume demands while reinforcing team collaboration and operational flow.
Training & Development:
- Provide hands-on training to staff in key operational areas, including proper drink preparation techniques, safe and hygienic food handling, adherence to sanitation and health protocols, and best practices in customer service. This includes onboarding new team members, reinforcing standards through regular coaching, and ensuring consistent execution of procedures to maintain service quality and regulatory compliance.
- Educate team members on liquor control regulations and licensing requirements, ensuring consistent compliance through ongoing training, clear communication of responsibilities, and reinforcement of best practices.
Finance & Administration:
- Review cash-outs to ensure accuracy and adherence to established financial procedures.
- Ensure all relevant checklists - daily and weekly - are thoroughly completed, accurately documented, and submitted in a timely manner. This includes monitoring task completion, following up with team members as needed, and maintaining organized records to support operational consistency and accountability.
Customer Engagement & Service Excellence:
- Proactively check in with customers to ensure satisfaction, actively listen to any concerns or feedback, and resolve complaints promptly and professionally. Strive to turn challenges into opportunities for improved service and positive guest experiences, while maintaining a calm and solution-focused approach.
- Uphold exceptional hospitality standards to foster a warm, welcoming environment and elevate the overall guest experience.
- Act as Host/Hostess by warmly welcoming and seating guests, promptly communicating newly seated tables to servers, and providing support with bussing and food running duties as needed to ensure smooth and efficient service.
- Coordinate closely with the kitchen team to maintain clear communication and ensure the timely and accurate fulfillment of guest orders.
Event, Reservations, & Special Functions:
- Ensure the seamless execution of events and guest reservations by coordinating logistics, confirming booking details, and communicating effectively with the bookings/events and marketing departments. Monitor timelines, anticipate potential challenges, and make real-time adjustments to maintain a smooth flow of service. Strive to exceed guest expectations by delivering organized, timely, and memorable experiences.
Cleanliness & Sanitation:
- Maintain exceptional cleanliness and organization across all Front of House areas, ensuring that all service zones consistently meet or exceed established health and safety regulations. Conduct regular inspections, address cleanliness issues proactively, and support a culture of hygiene and compliance through ongoing staff awareness and adherence to sanitation protocols.
Bartending & Service:
- Perform bartending and table service duties as needed, including preparing beverages, taking orders, delivering food and drinks, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction during peak hours or staff shortages.
- Handle cash transactions securely and accurately.
REQUIREMENTS
- Serving it Right (or willing to obtain).
- Bartending and/or serving experience is an asset.
- Management or supervisor experience is an asset.
- Criminal Record Check
