About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Role Overview/Purpose The geological technician works and collaborates with other members of the geology department under the supervision of the production geologist. They assist in the determination and control of the ore grade in development headings and production stopes and of the dilution encountered.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Orients and directs lateral development headings under geological control;
  • Monitor and track work performed in production stopes and control ore grade sent to the mill with the help of the engineering and mine departments.
  • Sample and map mineralized zones of faces in development headings;
  • Completes the geological and structural mapping of the underground development headings;
  • Control the nature and quality of the material brought to the surface by visual inspections of remucks and by inserting QAQC tracers in the mucked material;
  • Evaluate the grade of the work areas underground and estimates the dilution of the ore extracted;
  • Collection and input of all geological information collected.
  • Prepares and distributes a daily report detailing work done and needed in the mineralized ore developments and stopes;
  • Participates in the production meetings and informs the participants of the evolution of the work performed by the geology department underground;
  • Participates in the short-term production planning;
  • Follows and makes sure the health and safety standards of the Company.
  • Innovative and a proven ability to work with others.
  • All other tasks related to the operations of Island Gold Mine, as required by their supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications And Experience

  • Must have a Geological Technician Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in the underground production mining environment, preferably narrow-vein, is considered an asset
  • Exposure to technical software (AutoCAD, Datamine)
  • Strong communication, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility/Adaptability, analytical skills, safety-oriented
  • Ontario underground common core is an asset

Working Conditions

  • 14x14 rotational work

Physical Requirements Some of the physical aspects involved in this position require the incumbent to manipulate core boxes and sample bags of approximately 40-50 pounds.
