Working for the Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Alberta Computational Fluid Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering focuses on cutting-edge research in simulation-based engineering science, specializing in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), fluid-structure interaction, and data-driven modeling.

Position Summary

This position is time-sensitive due to the project start date in September 2025.

This postdoctoral position focuses on developing and applying CFD and machine learning methods for understanding flow dynamics and predicting pipeline damage. The ideal candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team and contribute to high-impact research with real-world industrial applications.

Duties

  • Conduct CFD and applied ML research
  • Submit journal and conference publications
  • Support proposal and funding development
  • Supervise junior researchers
  • Participate in meetings and activities

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil Engineering, or Computing Science
  • Experience with CFD solvers and ML algorithms
  • Proficiency in C/C++ or Python

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with OpenFORM
  • Familiarity with FSI simulations and preCICE
  • AI/ML model development for prediction and visualization
  • FEM-based code usage (deal.ll, CalculiX)
