Job Overview

Reporting to the Control Centre Lead, the Control Centre Operator has the responsibility of safely and efficiently monitoring and controlling complex pipeline and terminal systems, utilizing a SCADA system and other tools. The operator is responsible for recognizing and responding to normal, abnormal, and emergency operating conditions in accordance with company policies and procedures. The Control Centre Operator will utilize critical tools and software to ensure system integrity, product quality, and operational effectiveness.

Position Responsibilities

  • Hold the safety of people, environment, and property paramount.
  • Actively support workplace safety and participate in company safety programs.
  • Utilize SCADA, leak detection systems, and other tools to monitor and control our pipeline and terminal assets.
  • Recognize and respond to normal, abnormal, and emergency operating conditions.
  • Follow operating procedures and best operating practices to maintain the pipeline system in a safe state.
  • Investigate leak alarms, leak triggers, and imbalances.
  • Identify and analyze problems with SCADA, leak detection systems, batch tracking or other Information Technology (IT) applications and contact appropriate support personnel to correct problems in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and implement daily delivery and receipt volumes and rate schedules to meet nomination plans.
  • Observe product qualities and report abnormalities.
  • Review upcoming outages and plan accordingly.
  • Review Change Documentation on system changes.
  • Complete work orders for equipment and system issues and contact appropriate personnel to resolve issues.
  • Complete documentation and shift change form accurately and thoroughly.
  • Communicate and collaborate professionally with internal and external personnel.
  • Identify, communicate, and contribute to Continuous Improvement program.
  • Perform commissioning activities as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; technical diploma is considered an asset.
  • 2 + years of Oil & Gas experience; previous control room experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently on 12-hour shifts with a rotating schedule between days and nights (06:00 to 18:00).
  • Able to adhere to maximum commute distance of 80 km.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple issues and make complex decisions under pressure.
  • Proven experience analyzing, troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Experience creating, improving, and executing detailed procedures and processes.
  • Professional communications skills (written and oral) and a collaborative working style.
  • Proven mathematical ability to calculate known formulas for pipeline operations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of operating codes and standards, regulations, and Industry practices is considered an asset.
  • Intermediate MS-Office product skill; Experience with coding, database systems, PI Datalink, Power Bi, SQL is an asset.
