Position Title: Kennel Attendant- Specialty Services

Reports to: Lead Specialty RVT

Department: Specialty Services

Status: Part-Time Permanent, Weekday Evenings

Prerequisites

  • Preferred candidate would currently be enrolled in a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT), Veterinary Medical Assistant, or Pre- Veterinary Program.
  • High school diploma
  • Over 18 years old
  • Able to stand for long periods of time (10 hours)
  • Able to lift 50lbs (22kg)
  • Exhibit compassion and patience
  • Understanding of veterinary hospital flow
  • Knowledge of the scope of practice for hospital staff
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to be on time and prepared to work at the beginning of your scheduled shift
  • Working Conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, animal bodily fluids or feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.

Position Summary

The Evening Specialty Support role is primarily responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and functional environment within the hospital during evening hours. This position plays a key part in supporting the operations of our Specialty Services by ensuring all areas—including treatment spaces, surgical suites, and common areas—are clean, stocked, and ready for use. In addition to facility upkeep, this role includes supplementary responsibilities such as assisting with patient handling and providing basic patient support tasks as needed.

Primary Responsibilities (Cleaning & Organization):

  • Maintain cleanliness and order throughout the facility, including both front and back-of-house areas
  • Perform routine cleaning: sweeping, mopping, dusting, laundry, emptying garbage and recycling bins
  • Prepare and clean treatment areas, surgical suites, and diagnostic rooms before and after use
  • Set up, decontaminate, disinfect, and store equipment and supplies (e.g., scopes, clippers, ultrasound, CT)
  • Perform sterilization duties, including instrument decontamination, inspection, assembly, and proper storage
  • Assist with surgical suite turnover and supply replenishment between procedures
  • Adhere to hospital biosecurity protocols and ensure accurate disinfectant dilution and use
  • Restock and organize medical and cleaning supplies throughout the hospital
  • Clean and prepare kennels and patient areas for new admissions

Supplementary Responsibilities (Patient Support):

  • Safely restrain a variety of animal species for procedures (e.g., blood collection, ultrasound, catheter placement)
  • Support enrichment efforts for hospitalized patients (e.g., toys, music, treats, iPads, Feliway)
  • Provide oral nutrition options and assist with feeding when required
  • Monitor and document basic patient care observations (e.g., food/water intake, urination, defecation)
  • Assist with walks and encourage natural bathroom breaks
  • Relay owner updates to appropriate team members as requested
  • Use internal communication tools for messaging and invoicing as needed
  • Manage and route incoming calls or messages to the appropriate personnel

Other duties as assigned to support the hospital team and patient care
