Victoria Conference Centre Security Supervisor
We are looking for a skilled Security Supervisor to organize and oversee security operations at the Victoria Conference Centre (VCC), the largest convention centre on Vancouver Island.
Security personnel will be under your command while you develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain the site's existing high-level security standards. You will have to demonstrate excellent leadership and time management skills. A strong knowledge base of health and safety policies along with emergency response procedures is required.
The Victoria Conference Centre is a high-profile site where customer service skills are absolutely essential. The convention spaces can be extremely busy during peak times, and the ability to plan and multitask is essential for this role.
The successful candidate will be responsible for being the first point of contact with the Client, and for overseeing:
- Site Security Officers
- Events and special coverages
- Leading a dynamic team in a high-paced environment
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for ensuring the Security team delivers an excellent customer service environment.
- Maintain a high-level customer service ambassador approach with the public and event attendees while on duty.
- Follow up and resolve customer/client concerns and queries; make recommendations to improve security policies.
- Supervise Security staff assigned to the site, as well as Event Protection Officers; act as a resource for security issues in accordance with PSG policy and procedure. Ensure guidelines and standards for security staff are adhered to.
- Provide access control for event attendees. Manage room setup by turning on/off lights and operating required equipment.
- Maintain and enforce all Paladin and Client policies and procedures on site, ensuring the highest standards in security operations—e.g., dress code, deportment, report quality, mentoring, etc.
- Supervise and assist all officers with delegated responsibilities.
- Ensure all reports are completed; each officer submits complete and accurate daily and incident reports. Follow up on inaccuracies or omissions. Review all site Incident Reports and escalate incidents as required. Read daily building ops reports and stay informed on VCC and Empress event lists.
- Compile accurate statistics and complete audits of site materials and reports.
- Conduct monthly audits of first aid kit supplies.
- Liaise professionally with tenants and Client Representatives, representing Paladin Security with the utmost professionalism.
- Conduct site orientation and training for new officers; ensure site orientation packages and officer review tests are completed within the training period. Monitor officer performance and behavior; document and discipline staff as needed.
- Maintain departmental site and training schedules; ensure all shifts are covered. Assist with shift coverage as required. Ensure officers meet all site training requirements as outlined in the Officer Status Matrix.
- Accept after-hours phone calls as the first point of contact for site officers.
- Perform site scheduling, including regular coverage, events, and special requirements.
- Ensure all officers have read and signed all Paladin Health and Safety and Policy/Procedures documents.
- Ensure all accidents are reported promptly. Attend OH&S meetings with Client Management.
- Conduct investigations and risk assessments.
- Provide first aid to VCC staff, the public, and event attendees.
- Attend Monday VCC stand-up meetings and contribute security-related updates.
- Use Momentus event management software.
- Perform other duties as required and/or requested.
- Liaise with Client Management as needed.
Qualifications:
- Preferred: 1+ year of supervisory security experience or a combination of relevant experience and education.
- Successful completion of Paladin Supervisor Training or willingness to complete it.
- Preference given to candidates currently in or recently in a supervisory role.
- Must complete PSG Supervisory Training if not already completed.
- Intermediate First Aid certification (formerly Occupational First Aid Level 2).
