Position Summary
The Aquatic Leadership Instructor/Examiner is a highly skilled and certified professional responsible for delivering advanced aquatic training and leadership development programs. This role focuses on teaching and certifying the next generation of lifeguards and swim instructors in accordance with the highest standards set by the Lifesaving Society and Seal Swimming. The Aquatic Leadership Instructor acts as a mentor and subject matter expert, fostering a culture of safety, excellence, and professionalism among all candidates.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Program Delivery
- Lead, instruct, and evaluate candidates in advanced aquatic leadership courses, including Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard, and Instructor programs.
- Deliver the Lifesaving Society curriculum effectively, ensuring all performance criteria are met and understood by candidates.
- Plan and prepare engaging lesson plans, course materials, and training environments that are conducive to learning.
- Adapt instructional techniques to meet the needs of diverse learners and various learning styles.
Mentorship and Supervision
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and constructive feedback to candidates to support their development as aquatic professionals.
- Supervise all course participants to ensure their safety and adherence to program standards throughout training.
- Act as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm, and a commitment to aquatic safety.
Administration and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of candidate attendance, evaluations, and certification outcomes.
- Complete and submit all required course paperwork to the Lifesaving Society and Seal Swimming administration in a timely manner.
- Ensure all instructional activities comply with Seal Swimming’s policies, health and safety regulations, and the standards of the Lifesaving Society.
- Manage and maintain all instructional equipment, reporting any deficiencies to the Operations Manager.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager to schedule courses, book facilities, and ensure necessary resources are available.
- Contribute to the ongoing review and improvement of Seal Swimming’s leadership training programs.
- Liaise with the administrative team to ensure seamless candidate registration and certification processing.
Qualifications and Skills
All or some of the following certifications should be currently held:
- Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor & Examiner
- Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid Instructor & Examiner
- Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Instructor & Examiner
- Lifesaving Society Swim & Lifesaving Instructor Trainer
Work Conditions
- Work is performed on-site in a classroom and aquatic environment.
- Some courses offer blended learning.
- Position requires physical fitness to demonstrate advanced lifesaving skills and techniques.
- Flexible scheduling is required, with availability to teach courses during evenings and weekends.
