About The Role The Night Houseman reports to the Support Services Manager and/or designate and is responsible for the night janitorial and security duties at the community. This role maintains the established standards for sanitation, cleanness, and safe work environment for all persons served.

Responsibilities Include but not limited to:

  • Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
  • Responsible for the general security of the buildings and residents including resident emergency call system;
  • Carries out all aspects of routine and rotation cleaning throughout the building, offices, washrooms and elevators which include: dusting, vacuuming and sweeping; cleaning appliances; washing and buffing floors, walls, windows and doors; removing curtains/window coverings for cleaning and re-hanging; garbage removal; watering plants
  • Clean exterior hard surfaces by hosing off brick areas outside main doors nightly. Water planter boxes and tree and set-out and take in soaker hoses in scheduled areas. Empty exterior ashtray.
  • Supports other departments as needed with clean up after events.
  • Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:
  • accident prevention,
  • knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,
  • the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary
  • keeps work area in an orderly, safe and clean condition
  • keeps inventory in order on individual carts; replenishes supplies throughout the building, and
  • Utilizing infection control procedures
  • Reports significant changes or uncommon resident behaviour or concerns to nursing staff as required.
  • Attends and participates in community and education programs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Grade 10 or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must be available to work overnight shifts.
  • WHMIS Certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Free from communicable diseases and allergies or conditions which may be aggravated by working with cleaners, detergents, and equipment.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
