About the role
Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association is a non-profit charitable community services agency established since 1976. Our spectrum of services has grown from the delivery of Chinese meals-on-wheels service to a full range of community support services, covering the whole Greater Toronto Area.
With a staff of 500 members (including full-time and part-time staff) and the help of a pool of 850 active volunteers, we serve over 15,000 clients a year, including seniors, adults, youth with physical, social, emotional and health challenges. 3,000 of whom are "home-bound" and frail.
We are currently seeking a Personal Support Worker to join our Overnight Stay Program.
Term: Casual
Location: 300 Silver Star Blvd, Scarborough
Shifts : 8:45am - 4:45pm; 3pm - 11pm; 10:45pm - 9:15am
Responsibilities:
- Provide personal care services in a 24-hour respite care setting, including but not limited to bathing, grooming, skin care, dressing, toileting, lifts/transfers, mobility assistance, assisting at meal time, reminder of medication, etc. to meet clients’ needs and requests in a courteous and respectful manner
- Assist with program planning and facilitation of program activities for clients
- Document daily care given to clients
- Assess, intervene and report incidents and changes in client status
- Ensure the rooms are clean and free from hazards
Requirements:
- Graduated from a recognized Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate program
- At least 1 year experience in long term care facility/hospital setting
- Current certification in First Aid & CPR, and Food Handling
- Must be available to work shifts, including overnights, weekends, and holidays
- Sensitivity to adults with needs related to aging, physical and mental health
- Ability to perform client transfers and daily living activities; lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stretch, and stand for extended periods of time
- Physically and mentally able to complete the duties of PSW without restrictions
- Possess a caring attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in English and a second language that reflects the community served, eg. Cantonese, Mandarin, is an asset
- A valid vulnerable sector police record check completed within one year
