Purpose** To ensure that high standards of first aid/primary care, occupational and personal health and hygiene consultation, health education, emergency services and rehabilitation are provided to all employees.
Safety and Sustainability Expectations
- Provide or coordinate standard first aid training at Borden
- Ensures the maintenance of the Occupational Health facilities and supplies
- Promote and adhere to Porcupine Environmental and Sustainability policies
- Will use the FRM Standards to ensure that they are complied with by all within their sphere of influence and that those in their areas of concern are applying the Standards as required.
Responsibilities Health
- Responsible for directing the activities of the Occupational Health Services department and functioning under the medical directives of the employers Occupational Health Physician.
- Identify, develop and implement medical surveillance programs such as Lead, Silica, Arsenic, Hoist Operator, Mine Rescue, etc.
- Provide first aid and primary care to all Porcupine employees and contractors.
- Provide annual Flu Shots and Immunization to all Porcupine employees and contractors
- Identify and administer health education and rehabilitation programs
- Maintain confidential medical records
- Provide employee health counseling, health inspections
- Coordinate and administer Pre-placement and Periodic medicals
- Administer Employee Assistance programs.
- Coordinate Vision Screening Program for all Porcupine employees
- Provide audiogram testing and health teaching to all Porcupine employees
- Provide coverage for Cyanide offloads
- Promote Mental Health and Wellness through education to all employees
Occupational and Non-Occupational Claim Management
- Administer First aid reporting obligations
- Administer the WSIB claim management and modified work program.
- Provide updates/statistics to Department Heads and General Foreperson
- Review WSIB Cost & Neer Statements and scrutinize reports for cost relief under the SIEF program.
- Assist Outside Agency with claim management for WSIB hearings
- Administer Short Term and Long-Term disability programs for all Porcupine employees
Training
- Provide Standard First Aid training/CPR to all Porcupine employees
- Provide Respirator Fit Testing to all Porcupine employees
- Provide practicum experience in Occupational Health for nursing students at Northern College
Training and Education
- Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario as RN or RPN
- Valid First Aid Instructor certificate
- Valid Standard &/or Advanced First Aid/CPR certificate
- Audiometric Technician certificate
- Intravenous Therapy Course
- Minimum five (5) years acute care nursing experience, Occupational Health and/or Out-Post (remote) setting.
- Minimum five (5) years' experience in leadership roles
- Critical Incident Stress Debriefing training
- Ability to plan and schedule programs and activities
- Demonstrate good problem solving skill
- Work well in a team atmosphere
- Valid G driver's license
