Duties:

Reporting to the Advancement Manager, Major Gifts and Legacies, the donor stewardship coordinator coordinates and initiates all donor stewardship activities for the Advancement and Alumni Relations team, the VIU Foundation, senior VIU leadership and all Faculties and units. Guided by the stewardship framework, the coordinator will take the initiative to systematically engage VIU's donors and supporters through timely, personal and specific communication and actions relating to gifts and the impact of philanthropy at VIU.

  • Coordinate and work with advancement managers to develop and implement stewardship strategies that strengthen long-term relationships with donors
  • Represent VIU as the primary stewardship contact with a select group of 50-100 key donors
  • Ensure the full implementation of the stewardship framework across the campus
  • Organize a team effort, including with individual faculty representatives, to coordinate the development and implementation of specific stewardship actions for donors at various recognition levels
  • Lead the process that prompts advancement staff, university leadership, including the president, and key volunteers to assist them in maintaining personal contact with major donors and volunteers
  • Write and develop personal acknowledgment and stewardship letters and communications, often on behalf of senior executives, board members, and key volunteers
  • Coordinate and develop innovative stories and communications highlighting the impact of philanthropy at VIU
  • Prepare regular gift and stewardship reports for advancement staff, the VIU Foundation and VIU senior executives
  • Utilize the Raiser's Edge donor database to maintain accurate donor records and mine for key donor data
  • On occasion, plan, manage and execute meetings and events that advance donor engagement and stewardship.
  • Identify best practices at other organizations for stewardship planning and operation
  • Support VIU Foundation donor stewardship activities
  • Responsible for building strong working relations with other members of the University Relations department.
  • Requires regular interaction with senior executives, Faculty leadership, VIU Foundation board members and other key volunteers.
  • Completes general updates on the administrative area, faculty or department website (e.g., biographies, announcements, important dates, course information), ensuring information is current and accurate.

Required Qualifications:

University degree at Bachelors' level from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum three years' experience, including public event organization.

Strong ability to take initiative and take independent action. Excellent organization and project management skills. Excellent written and verbal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Fundraising experience. Not-for-profit or public sector experience. Volunteer relations experience. Relational database experience (preferably Raiser's Edge). Valid Class 5 Driver's License and a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
