We are currently seeking a qualified individual to join our dynamic, forward-thinking team of Finance professionals in our Toronto office.
MANAGER, FINANCE – TORONTO
The Manager, Finance, is responsible for regulatory and financial reporting. This position will oversee the quarterly and annual P&C-1 filing process. The Manager will also be responsible for premium and sales tax reporting, quarterly reporting packages, annual audited financials, improving controls and creating efficiencies in department processes.
Accountabilities include:
- Lead the quarterly and annual P&C-1 filing process and remain current on changes to the P&C-1.
- Review month-end and quarter-end reconciliations prepared by the team on a timely basis.
- Review of premium and sales tax calculations in accordance with provincial regulations.
- Review the quarterly and annual audited financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
- Review of quarterly reinsurance packages and ensure reinsurance payments are matched to the financial records and settled on a timely basis.
- Assist with banking activities, including approval of claim and expenses payments.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the Company’s accounting system and general ledger, and review & approve journal entries as required. Collaborate with the accounting software service provider to implement improvements/changes to reports and system functionalities.
- Represent the Finance team and collaborate with IT and other business units for various projects to ensure that requirements are met, which allows financial and regulatory reporting to remain accurate and efficient.
- Work with external auditors to ensure an efficient and timely year-end audit and interim reviews.
- Work with internal auditors to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, as well as develop and implement additional controls as required.
- Provide training and oversight to direct reports and other staff.
- Assist with banking activities, such as approval of certain payments.
- Collaborate with other Finance department staff to support overall department goals and objectives, while responding to inquiries regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Commerce with an emphasis in Accounting preferred
- CPA required
- 7+ years in the financial reporting area
- Minimum 3 years in a managerial role
- Must have proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information to a wide range of audiences
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, along with attention to detail
- Proven ability to exercise independent judgment
- Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills, including the ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple priorities
- Proven experience with leading and coaching staff
