Position Description:
Job Title: Engineering and Pilot Plant Manager
Department: PDS (Pharmaceutical Development Solutions)
Position Reporting To: Director, Engineering
Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time
No. of Direct Reports: 4-10
General Description:
- Lead the site PDS Engineering team.
- Provide Engineering leadership for all new product introductions.
- Ensure Pilot plant is run as an operational unit.
- Ensure personnel have clearly defined roles and responsibilities, possess the necessary knowledge, experience, skills, and behaviors to fulfill their roles.
Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to the site PDS Engineering department.
- Manage the team to be the key point of contact for engineering with all External Clients.
- Manage the Pilot plant and resources as an operational unit.
- Manage the Pilot plant budget to targets.
- Ensure that appropriate Engineering, EHS, and Quality Standards are deployed and adhered to throughout the site as defined in Bora Standards.
- Ensure compliance to appropriate regulatory bodies (e.g. FDA, TSSA, Ministry of Labour, etc.).
- Support and implement site PDS engineering process improvements, including savings initiatives.
- Ensure that there is a skilled engineering pipeline to progress Bora Mississauga site reputation with external stakeholders.
- Deliver on the department operational budget.
- Manage, coach, develop, motivate, and lead staff.
Qualifications
Experience and Skills
- Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in equipment engineering, project engineering, facilities engineering within the manufacturing/packaging industry.
- Current Professional Engineer (P. Eng) status recommended.
- Good overall knowledge of pharmaceutical business operations.
- Proven people management skills.
- Excellent influencing and relationship management skills.
- Experience managing equipment projects and negotiating with vendors.
- Good working knowledge of current GMPs, applicable regulatory legislation, and Good Engineering Practices for highly regulated markets.
- Strong continuous improvement, problem solving and evaluating skills.
- Excellent project management and planning skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Education
Required:
- University bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Engineering - Various specialties (Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc.)
Preferred:
- University Degree, Professional Engineer License
Working Conditions:
- Must be flexible for occasional after hours and weekend support, predominantly working in office environment.
