About the role

Polytechnics Canada is the voice of leading research-intensive, publicly supported polytechnics and institutes of technology. On their behalf, we advocate for federal action related to innovation and skills.

Polytechnic education is technical, hands-on and applied. Polytechnic institutions allow students to learn alongside industry professionals, to industry standards, using industry equipment. The result is a talent pipeline that is highly employable and prepared to hit the ground running. Businesses and organizations partner with polytechnics to solve their challenges through applied research.

The Polytechnics Canada team is a small group of dedicated and enthusiastic professionals working in a fast-paced office environment. We are seeking a motivated team player who, like us, has high standards for quality work, is able to multi-task and has a great sense of humour.

Qualifications & Attributes:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field of study
  • At least two years’ experience working in policy advocacy or government relations, preferably within a non-profit environment
  • High degree of political acumen and awareness
  • Ability to draft and edit persuasive content
  • Self-disciplined and detail-oriented
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Consistently looks to grow themselves and their contributions in pursuit of the organization’s interests
  • Policy experience in post-secondary education, strategic workforce development and/or skilled trades considered an asset

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Communicates policy objectives and positions in a variety of formats, including policy papers, opinion pieces, briefs and in-person, with close attention to accuracy and detail
  • Monitors a wide variety of academic and non-academic sources to build a strong knowledge of the policy portfolio and peripheral issues
  • Reads, synthesizes and shares insights from those sources with a view to putting data and information into context, drawing conclusions and identifying policy opportunities
  • In coordination with the policy team, works with internal and external stakeholders and government/political officials to develop actionable policy solutions that advance the objectives of Polytechnics Canada and its members
  • Oversees meeting agendas, summary notes and next steps for assigned member working groups
  • Organizes and participates at meetings with government officials and politicians with a view to building relationships and influencing policy

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $65,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
