As a Senior Transportation Planning Technologist reporting to one of the Coordinators in the Development Engineering Mobility team, you will be responsible for reviewing land Use, Subdivision, Road Closures, and Development Permit Applications for their impact on existing transportation infrastructure, including requirements for upgrades, and new transportation infrastructure. You will represent the Development Engineering division at public meetings, school site planning team, and meetings with other internal and external parties. You will also be responsible for the preparation of departmental responses to the planning circulations coordinated through the multi-departmental Development Applications Review Team (DART). Primary duties include:
- Review development permit applications, land use amendments, subdivisions and outline plan applications, road closures, and provide technical recommendations to DART.
- Coordinate the circulation and review of transportation comments for development applications throughout the City.
- Incorporate the City Department's comments as Corporate recommendations of the DART team.
- Compile background information, research and prepare presentations for Calgary Planning Commission, City Council and other groups and review agencies, and attend public meetings.
- Participate in and contribute to meetings with DART, individual applicants, departmental staff, and interest groups to resolve transportation issues arising in the development applications process.
- Liaise with developers, consultants, and the public related to development proposals and their transportation implications.
Qualifications
- A completed 2 year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Transportation Planning and at least 5 years of experience in transportation planning and engineering; OR
- A degree in a related field such as Urban Design, Architecture and Geography and at least 3 years of experience in transportation planning and engineering.
- Experience working with municipal development applications, either in a municipal or consulting engineering environment is required.
- Knowledge of transportation engineering standards and design guidelines is also required.
- Accreditation from the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) and membership with the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) will be considered assets.
- Success in this position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a team environment, analytical skills, and a high attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to plan and organize a heavy workload.

Workstyle
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $47.01 - 62.84 per hour
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day
work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
