The West Vancouver Financial Services Department has an opening for a permanent full-time Taxes & Utilities Clerk IV. This role entails difficult clerical work and involves the supervision of employes engaged in a variety of fairly complex duties. The position will report to the Municipal Services Centre Coordinator.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Supervision, training, assigning and reviewing work of staff engaged in reception duties at the information desk and in processing records related to billing, collection of taxes and utilities payments;
  • Explaining laws and regulations about taxes, water, sewer, solid waste and recycling rates and policies to the public;
  • Making detailed calculations to ensure grants in lieu of taxes are invoiced accurately and credited to the correct accounts;
  • Handling tax sales process including tax sales list, completing office records and legal documents, ensuring concerned parties are notified and assisting in conducting tax sale;
  • Handling daily transactions including deposits, online bank payments, letters of credits, records retention and stationary orders;
  • Reviewing and checking a variety of reports, statements, cards, license, bills, office records, and supporting data for accuracy, completeness and in conformance with departmental regulations;
  • Drafting new forms, procedures and instructions, subject to review of a supervisor;
  • Recommending to supervisor where action needs to be taken in regard to departmental activities such as collection of delinquent accounts; and
  • Performing other related work as required.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A high school diploma including or supplemented by courses in commercial subjects and a combination of clerical and supervisory experience will be desirable assets.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationship with the public and to explain and interpret departmental rules and regulations;
  • Considerable knowledge of the organization and functions of various municipal departments as it relates to work performed;
  • Independent judgement and the ability to make decisions in the light of established precedents and resourcefulness in meeting new problems;
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of office management;
  • Superior clerical aptitude and skill in the operation of standard office appliances and software applications.
  • Thorough knowledge in writing business letters, reports and statements and the ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of clerical staff; and
  • Knowledge of standard office software applications and office management.

The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable Police Information Check and a copy of their credentials.

Position Status:

WVMEA (Union) – Permanent, Full-Time

Hours of Work:

35 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

Rate of Pay:

$35.49 (This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually).
