In this Finance Business Strategist position, you will be supporting the Corporate Budget Office in its processes and initiatives. In this position, you will identify issues, propose solutions, implement strategies, projects and programs, and ensure sustainment of new initiatives, processes and programs. You will communicate regularly with the Finance Management team delivering strategic recommendations and presenting solutions, project plans and outcomes. Primary duties include:

  • Lead the development and standardization of Finance processes by conducting process gap analysis, process mapping, documenting processes and procedures, identifying opportunities for improvement, determining requirements, developing project charters, creating risk registers, communication plans and change management plans.
  • Enable optimized utilization of the City's financial systems by identifying opportunities for automation and optimal utilization of systems.
  • Develop training materials in a variety of formats and ensuring the training materials are accessible on the corporate Learning Management System and myCity.
  • Lead projects and project teams for Finance based on Business Units goals and objectives.
  • Conduct research and gap analysis to develop and coordinate key workforce strategy programs on behalf of the Finance Management team in collaboration with Finance partners.
  • Develop annual plans for employee development opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain external partnership agreements.
  • Conduct research and analysis of business unit trends, perform gap analysis and needs assessment to advise Finance Directors and senior leadership of current trends and information.
  • Develop recommendations for process and policy improvement and business improvement initiatives within the Finance business unit and support implementations of potential changes.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Business, Public Administration, Social Science or a related discipline with at least 8 years of job-related experience OR;
  • A Professional Designation such as a Chartered Professional Accountant and at least 5 years of job-related experience OR;
  • A master's degree in Business, Public Administration, Social Science or a related discipline with at least 5 years of related job experience.
  • Experience with process documentation, process redesign, and successful implementation of process and service improvement initiatives will be given preference.
  • Experience with project management facilitation and/or client negotiation will be considered assets.
  • Success in this position requires:
  • Strong political acumen and the ability to work in ambiguous environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, communication and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, build consensus among internal/external partners and influence others.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Such arrangements are based on the operational requirements of the position and employee suitability and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Pay Grade 13 $49.32 - 66.00 per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35-hour work week
