ABOUT THE ROLE
The Database Architect has expertise in data modeling, reporting, and Power BI to design and manage scalable, secure database systems that support both operational and analytical needs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating data models, setting database standards, optimizing performance, and ensuring data integrity and security. This role involves close collaboration with software engineers, business analysts, and system administrators to support business applications and analytics.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable and secure database architectures to support reporting needs.
- Develop efficient SQL queries to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various external and internal systems (e.g., POS, ERP).
- Integrate API-driven data pipelines to ingest and synchronize data from external systems (e.g., POS, ERP, CRM, third-party services).
- Model data using Power BI Data Model (DAX, Power Query/M) to ensure scalability and performance.
- Collaborate with business analysts and project managers to understand reporting requirements and translate them into optimized data models, dashboards and reports.
- Automate recurring reports and support ad-hoc analysis requests with fast turnaround.
- Ensure the performance, availability, and integrity of databases and reporting systems.
- Develop documentation for database structures, reporting dashboards, and data governance policies.
- Troubleshoot database issues and provide technical support.
- Promotes and works to maintain workplace wellness, health and safety, through active compliance with all workplace health and safety policies and procedures
- Any other duties as required
Education & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in database design and data architecture.
- Proven experience designing and managing dashboards in Power BI.
- Strong SQL skills for querying and data manipulation across relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Azure SQL, MySQL).
- Advanced knowledge of Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and data modeling best practices.
- Knowledge of ETL tools and scripting (e.g., SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Python).
- Ability to explain complex data findings to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and documentation practices.
- Team-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Familiarity with data integration tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) is a plus.
