Temporary, Casual hours with varying shifts
The Medicine Hat Police Service is looking to hire a Police Clerk to join their team and provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders. As a Police Clerk, you are responsible for customer service and reception, processing and disseminating police information and ensuring accurate records are maintained within a variety of specialized police systems. This position requires you to excel in a fast paced environment and to be available to work a flexible schedule, which includes weekdays, weekends, statutory holidays and rotating evening/night shifts.
Your key responsibilities
- Performing data entry, transcription and uploading of all police files.
- Preparing legal and related documents for charge files.
- Maintains records and accurately enters information into various Police systems.
- Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
What you bring
- Ability to work efficiently and independently, with a high degree of accuracy, despite regular interruptions and changing priorities.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, while maintaining strict confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- Sound decision-making skills, flexibly and good judgement in managing their workload, and a detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a one (1) year certificate in an Office Technology Program from a recognized post secondary institution.
- Two (2) years' experience in dealing with the public, in sensitive situations, including one (1) year experience in a computerized billing/accounting environment, and two (2) years administrative Office experience, preferable with related legal knowledge.
- Possess current certification for Standard First Aid/CPR and AED or ability to obtain.
- A management approved combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must pass a full Police Service security clearance as outlined in the Medicine Hat Police Service Policy and Procedures, including a polygraph examination.
