Reporting to: Director of Production

Purpose: Why you’re here at Brown Bag Films

To lead the production of the show’s creative vision across all stages of production, by managing the budget, schedule & workflow, facilitating communication between all stakeholders and leading the crew.

Delivery: What you produce

• Delivered shows

• Monthly and Weekly Reports (and/or documentation as requested by Executive leadership)

• Variance and Cost reports (in collaboration with Production Finance)

• Managed solutions for problems arising

• Intentional and sustainable crew resourcing

• New bids (budgets, schedule, assumptions, quotas) as needed.

Measurements: How we measure it

• On budget and on schedule delivery of production

• Successful delivery of the project in line with the creative vision & production assumptions

• Feedback from VP of Production/Director of Production and 360 feedback from Director and Stakeholders & Supervisors

• Team development & sustainability

Key Responsibilities: What you are regularly responsible for doing

• Overseeing all phases of pre-production, production and post-production through the leadership of the production teams, prioritizing tasks, supervising workflow, managing relationships, communication, reporting, forecasting and troubleshooting. Including:

  • Ensuring that quotas and production assumptions are adhered to or managing impact of any changes (e.g. overage).
  • Participating in all major reviews including, but not limited to, scripts, voice records, designs, animatics, animation and post.

• Brokering deals with all third-party service providers by negotiating optimum price for optimum quality from script writers, VO talent, music composers to audio post-production companies (vendors in collaboration with the Director of Post-Production).

• Controlling the production schedule and budget; managing detailed cost & variance reporting in collaboration with Production Finance.

• Developing and managing strong and trustful relationship with Stakeholders throughout

Production, keeping them aware of any concerns on the project through reporting, forecasting impacts and providing solutions.

• Leading, mentoring and developing the production team under their purview and senior creatives in collaboration with Director & Creative Director:

  • Assisting with recruitment to ensure on-time assignment of crews per the schedule.
  • Ensuring the facilitation of regular performance reviews for all team members.
  • Fostering a productive and positive team environment by bringing a strategic perspective to challenging situations. Collaborating with the Director to create the highest quality production within the constraints of the project budget and schedule.
  • Overseeing effective weekly production meetings to optimise clear communication of production deadlines and progress and undertaking weekly reporting to DOP on the status of the production.
  • Creating, managing and implementing wrap procedures, mid production analysis and postmortems.
  • Managing series credits including, when needed, Stakeholders, legal and executive approvals.

Things that help you do your job (what is essential and what is desirable)

Knowledge:

• Extensive experience in producing at least 3 long-form animation productions from script to screen.

• Comprehensive understanding of production schedule management and animation pipeline and processes.

• Project management principles

• Strong experience in leading teams across all departments

• Strong report creation methods

• Strong financial literacy (Variance report, Cost report, etc)

• Understanding of storytelling and production complexities of various art styles

• Experienced in dealing with oversea partners (desirable)

• Strong knowledge and experience working with WGC, WGA, ACTRA, SIGFA and Canadian funding regulations

• Extensive experience with asset tracking/database systems (eg: Shotgrid)

• Experienced in dealing with different animation formats and working with tight deadlines

Technical Skills:

• Expertise in Microsoft Office, in particular Excel

• Expertise in use of asset tracking software. e.g. Autodesk’s Shotgrid, Excel.

• Applied use of TV production/film budgeting software (Excel, Movie Magic Budgeting)

• Familiarity with Toonboom Harmony
