Job Type: Permanent-Full-Time (3 days on and 3 days off, 7am-7pm)

Pay: $24.95 per hour + benefits

About the role:

We’re looking for a Recovery Support Worker (Assist) to join our Detox team. The Recovery Support Worker is responsible for the development and implementation of a case plan that assists the client in increasing their overall stability and resiliency, as well as supporting clients in meeting their short- or long-term recovery goals. Your responsibilities would include:

  • Completing daily admissions, including monitoring and responding to client needs

  • Demonstrate ethically responsible practice with staff and clients alike

  • Daily case notes and record keeping related to the client’s psycho-social state and treatment plan, including assessing their current place in the stages of change model

  • Case manage and support clients in reaching achievable and realistic goals, making referrals to community resources, assisting in the completion of treatment applications, and attaining appropriate funding

  • Work in partnership with the nursing team to ensure safe withdrawal management

  • Role model Alpha House’s values and be a positive ambassador when interacting with the public, partners, and businesses

  • Provide educational presentations to clients on topics related to health, addictions, and homelessness

  • Ensure clients residing in the program are following program requirements

  • Complete daily chores, including cleaning (including bodily fluids) and laundry

  • Participate in and attend regular team meetings and program evaluations as needed

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to reference them from appropriate sources

  • Transport clients in an agency vehicle as needed

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (MSDS, OH&S, WHMIS, etc.)

  • Assist in the Shelter and other programs as needed

As an Assist, you will also be given the opportunity to train in a Shift Supervisor capacity to develop your leadership skills and gain further experience. You will also be compensated accordingly when acting in this role ($27 per hour).

About You:

  • A minimum of a two-year program in Addictions, Social Work, or related field from a Public Post-Secondary Educational Institution, or in progress towards one

  • Front-line experience working with Indigenous and/or vulnerable populations and a desire to work with people who may be socially disadvantaged or have mental health challenges

  • An understanding of addictions including withdrawal management, harm reduction, stages of change, trauma-informed care, crisis management, crisis counseling, recovery-oriented systems of care, and impact of mental health issues

  • Must be tolerant, non-judgmental, and possess a high degree of compassion and empathy towards the homeless and those struggling with addictions and/or mental health

  • Proven crisis management, problem-solving, rapport-building, and advocacy skills

  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills and the ability to prepare and facilitate presentations

  • Team player with strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate with respect, dignity, discretion, and maintain client confidentiality

  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability, including time management and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision

  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • An understanding and appreciation for the Protection of Persons in Care Act

Position Requirements:

  • Proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19

  • Class 5 (Non-GDL) driver’s license

  • Comfortable driving a large passenger van

  • Be able to physically assist clients from prone to sitting or standing, and vice versa

  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Search, valid within the last six months, that does not contain any results material to the position
