Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide assistance to individuals in need, ensuring their comfort and well-being. The successful candidate must be able to speak Tagalog This role is crucial in supporting clients with daily activities, promoting independence, and enhancing their quality of life. The Support Worker will work closely with clients who may have disabilities, Alzheimer, dementia, or require assistance in assisted living or retirement home settings.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including meal preparation and personal hygiene.
- Provide case management support by coordinating care plans and monitoring client progress.
- Administer medications as prescribed and ensure proper documentation of medication administration.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients, adhering to health and safety standards.
- Utilize medical terminology effectively to communicate with healthcare professionals regarding client needs.
- Offer companionship and emotional support to enhance the overall well-being of clients.
- Work collaboratively with families, healthcare providers, and other support staff to ensure comprehensive care.
- Implement strategies for working with persons with disabilities, adapting approaches to meet individual needs.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retirement home or assisted living environment is preferred.
- Valid Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate recognized in Ontario
- Nursing Degree from outside of Canada
- Minimum 2 years experience working in a retirement or long-term care setting
- Proficient in both Tagalog and English
- Demonstrated experience in caring for clients with Alzheimer’s and other forms of Dementia
- Knowledge of senior safety, infection prevention and control, and ethical caregiving practices
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to client care.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with caregiving, including lifting and transferring clients as needed.
- A caring attitude and a commitment to promoting independence among clients.
- Certification or training in medication administration is desirable but not mandatory.
