Position Details RWDI is hiring a Junior Scientist Engineer/EIT for the Building Performance team in the Guelph office .
This entry level role includes but is not limited to:
- Plan and coordinate all technical aspects of assigned projects
- Solve challenging building design problems involving solar, stack effect, and indoor/outdoor ventilation design
- Consult with engineering, architectural and industrial clients
- Conduct data collection, computational simulations, analysis, post-processing, interpretation, and documentation of engineering results
- Consulting with engineers and architects to answer technical questions
- Writing technical project reports that present methodology, results and recommendations
- Providing advice on technical problems and follow the appropriate QA/QC procedures
- Assist with the preparation of proposals, marketing materials and/or technical papers
- Working under the general supervision of senior staff with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgement
We are accepting applications from candidates with the following qualifications :
- A recent graduate of a post-secondary engineering or engineering related program incorporating studies in fluid dynamics and/or building science.
- A strong understanding of the fundamental physics of fluid flow, heat and mass transfer
- Demonstrated initiative, independent problem-solving methods/capabilities, exceptional coordination and communication skills
- Experience simulating complex systems with simplified models
- An ability to work in a fast-paced consulting environment with minimal supervision while multi-tasking to meet deadlines
- An aptitude for working in a highly collaborative, team environment
Preference will be given to candidates with the following experience :
- Knowledge of building code and ASHRAE standards, curtain wall, fenestration, or HVAC systems in residential or commercial applications
- Experience interpreting and working with architectural, structural, or mechanical drawings
- Calculating/estimating inputs for both fluid and heat transfer boundary conditions
- Generating meshes for and running Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations with standard tools (e.g. Star CCM+, Open FOAM, etc.)
- Presenting results in a clear and concise manner
- Advanced level Microsoft Excel capabilities
- Programming/scripting experience (Python, C++, C#, VBA)
- Experience working within open-source operating systems (Linux)
- Competency with cloud/cluster computing
