Location This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location be based out of City Hall, 426, Brant Street, Burlington. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective January 2026 this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for leading the establishment of new parks and renewal of existing parks. New parks includes participating in the development application review processes specific to parkland dedication. Other responsibilities include leading studies and a range of initiatives, working collaboratively with other city departments, outside agencies and the public. The position also provides Landscape Architectural expertise to other Corporate teams.
Responsibilities
The Landscape Architect will be responsible for:
- Consultants engaged in capital projects and studies to ensure project tasks and deliverables are realized. Reviewing work from a technical and administrative perspective to ensure that design and tender documents are complete and meeting engineering, landscape architectural and corporate standards.
- Project cost estimates, design, cost control and scheduling of all work for the delivery of projects within assigned timelines.
- Financial control of all projects, including reporting when budget areas are outside tolerance levels, documentation, account set up and closure.
- Responding to public, staff and elected official inquiries and complaints, to resolve matters, including participation in decisions or actions taken.
- Preparing and authoring reports and recommendations for Council consideration and representing the department at corporate and community meetings and functions on related assigned projects.
- Review and comment on all development application types relating to parkland dedication.
- Providing Landscape Architectural comments and requirements to other departments for Corporate projects and other departmental circulations.
- Contributes to the Parks capital budget process and asset management planning.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have an undergraduate university degree in Landscape Architecture or Master of Landscape Architecture degree with registration in the O.A.L.A. This is combined with more than 5 years relevant years practical experience. Must possess strong design skills, technical knowledge and project management skills. Must have experience in the following computer applications: AutoCAD and GIS.
This position may require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities and must provide own transportation.
