Position: Event Facilitator
Reports to: Director, Sales and Events
Science World is a mission-based, charitable organization that supports the development of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design and Math) literacy across British Columbia. Our Science for All strategy is to revitalize Science World with a substantial capital plan to replace critical infrastructure, enhance the visitor experience and develop new content across all our channels under the themes of Regeneration of the Planet, Human Health, and Inclusion. Our plan is to ensure that people throughout British Columbia, especially under-represented communities, have access to high quality, informal STEAM learning. Through our onsite, online and outreach programs, Science World seeks to spark curiosity and wonder in STEAM and support development of talent across communities in the province.

Position Description
We are looking for fun and energetic team members interested in entering the events and hospitality industry. Under the supervision of the Event Coordinator the Event Facilitator is responsible for the tasks and duties related to the execution of a successful event.
Science World is one of the most recognized landmarks on the Vancouver skyline. Our iconic facility located on the False Creek waterfront hosts a diverse array of events year-round. We offer unequaled service and unique experiences unlike any other venue in the city. Our picture-perfect outdoor event spaces, hands-on galleries and theatres continue to make us a top choice for weddings, rentals and corporate events.
Responsibilities
- Confer with the event lead at the beginning of your shift to review setup requirements in order to ensure the facility is ready as pre-arranged with the rental client
- Complete the assigned tasks and duties by the event lead relating to event setup and teardown, while ensuring a clean, safe and secure environment
- Ensure all clients, guests and external vendors adhere to the facility guidelines
- Undertake appropriate action in the event of a fire or other emergency situation
- Provide exceptional customer service to all guests and clients
- Ensure the security and safety of the guests and building assets during the event
- Maintain a well-organized Facility Rentals storage area and report any items that need to be replaced or repaired
- Reply in a timely manner to emails, shifts available, complete timesheets accurately, etc.
- Operate within the philosophy, culture and values of Science World
- Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role
Qualifications
-
Experience in the event and hospitality industry is considered an asset, minimum high school diploma required

Strong customer service and verbal communication skills. Must be able to relate to and handle guests on various levels

Must have a polished and professional appearance and manner
-
Flexible and able to work in a changing environment
-
Basic understanding and knowledge of audio-visual equipment is considered an asset
-
Ability to take initiative, troubleshoot and problem solve in a timely manner
-
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
-
Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, late nights and early mornings, as required. Minimum monthly availability is required

Some heavy lifting is required
This is a unionized position represented by CUPE 1004. The compensation rate is $20.41/hour.
After successfully completing probation, the successful candidate(s) will be eligible to join the Voluntary RRSP/TFSA Plan and receive paid time off (sick, wellness days).
