Duties
The Parliamentary Protective Service (PPS) is looking to staff three (3) indeterminate positions:
Stream 1: Program Advisor, Information Classification
Stream 2: Program Advisor, Business Continuity Management
Stream 3: Program Advisor, Emergency Preparedness
In this role you will be relied on to provide advice, recommendations and vision to protect the organization’s employees, information and assets. The Program Advisors report to the Senior Manager, Security Risk Management and will define the program’s operational direction, objectives, and priorities, ensuring alignment with those of the Office of the Chief Security Officer. This will be achieved through development and maintenance of tools, directives and best practices that effectively plan for an mitigate risks and provide employees with the appropriate level of awareness and training.
The Program Advisors duties include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the strategic and operational aspects of the program, including being responsible for the development, evolution, maintenance, and day-to-day planning, coordination, and administration of their programs and its activities in accordance with policies, standards, and best practices.
- Act as the subject matter expert in their respective areas and collaborate with various stakeholders.
- Manage program processes, planning, training and exercises.
- Initiates, develops, implements, and continually improves policies, plans, procedures, standards, and tools related to their programs.
- Designs and coordinates project plans to support the successful implementation of program initiatives.
- Monitors current and emerging disruptive risks, stays abreast of evolving issues elsewhere that may impact PPS and makes the necessary changes to program direction and priorities.
- Provides expert strategic and operational advice to the Senior Manager, Security Risk Management.
Work environment
The Parliamentary Protective Service (PPS) is a separate and distinct organization and is not subject to the Public Service Employment Act. PPS has its own classification, compensation system and staffing regime. Persons appointed to PPS continue to be part of the federal government and will receive the public service pension plan and public service insurance benefits plan.

Experience: ALL STREAMS:
E1 – Recent* and significant** experience in corporate programs*** in at least two (2) of the following five (5) controls:
- Business Continuity Management
- Emergency Preparedness
- Information Management Security
- Security Awareness and Training
- Security Event Management
E2 – Significant** experience in developing and/or implementing policies, directives, plans and/or procedures in a corporate security environment.
E3 – Experience establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
E4 – Experience providing recommendations on security matters to senior management.
STREAM 1 - Program Advisor, Information Classification: E5 - Experience in developing and/or implementing information classification procedures and other relevant policies, directives, plans and/or procedures.
STREAM 2
E6 - Program Advisor, Business Continuity Management: if you are applying for this position, explain how you have developed and/or implemented business continuity management plans and other relevant policies, directives, plans and/or procedures.
Stream 3

AE4 – Experience in working within a federal institution including agencies and/or crown corporations.
AE5 – Experience in leading major**** projects.
Definition:
- Major projects are defined as mid to long-term (6 to 12 months) projects constituting multiple deliverables and coordination with various stakeholders.
