About the role

Situated on the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas, the Art Gallery of Hamilton is one of Canada’s longest-running arts organizations and has grown, changed and developed along with the many communities it serves. The AGH is a complex and deeply enriched public space and publicly owned asset. It is a space for unique and restorative engagements, unique opportunities for dialogue and learning, and unique intersection of communities. The Gallery delivers exhibitions accompanied by a range of programs and activities geared to encourage access, promote education, and inspire discussion among increasingly diverse audiences both in the immediate region and beyond.

We are proud of the work we are engaged in and recognize that the work continues. We are organizationally committed to improving equity both within our institution and across our sector. We encourage applicants from all equity-seeking communities to apply, with priority given to Black, Indigenous, and people of colour, recognizing that both lived and learned experiences will inform the success of this role.

The Gallery is seeking an organized and collaborative Artful Moments Coordinator to support one of the Gallery’s fastest-growing areas: Wellness programming—with a primary focus on the Artful Moments initiative. Artful Moments offers a variety of inclusive, art-based experiences for individuals with diverse abilities, including those living with dementia. The program also includes a sector-wide training curriculum designed to support museums in developing and delivering similar, site-specific programs.

As a key member of the Programs and Learning department, the Coordinator will provide support across several ongoing initiatives. Working closely with AGH staff, contract facilitators, researchers, and volunteers, the Coordinator will help shape and manage the development and delivery of key Artful Moments programs between Summer 2025 and Spring 2027.

The ideal candidate is someone with a minimum of 2 years experience working in the museum sector, whose skills in program design and administration will support a growing team of artist educators, trainers, community partners, and people with lived experience. They will have superior organization and data-management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to manage multiple projects at once. Please note: this role is focused on program coordination and development rather than program delivery or facilitation. A degree in museum studies, education, or a related field is considered an asset.

Candidates who are fluent in additional languages are encouraged to highlight their language skills in their application.

The role is full-time (35 hours per week), based primarily on-site with occasional remote work options. This is a 2-year contract position, with competitive benefits and vacation. Salary range for this role is $43,000 - $46,000.

Interested applicants can email a cover letter, and complete resume to hr@artgalleryofhamilton.com prior to the application deadline of July 20th, 2025. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals; however, only those under consideration will be contacted.

As an equal opportunity employer, we are committed to establishing a qualified workforce that is reflective of the diverse population we serve. The Art Gallery of Hamilton is committed to providing accommodations throughout the recruitment process. If you require accommodation, please notify us and we will work with you to meet your needs.
