Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position.

Capital Power is seeking a Systems Professional to provide technical support and maintenance for applications within its commodity management business.

This role involves developing, enhancing, and sustaining application functionality, resolving incidents and technical issues, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver effective technical solutions aligned with business needs.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Supporting functional and technical aspects of highly complex and diverse applications and business process from multiple business areas.

  • Providing highly responsive and customer-focused application support services for multiple business areas.

  • Executing on creation and maintenance of business processes and functional design for IT systems used by supporting business groups.

  • Providing support services that meets outlined “Service Level Agreements” in these highly complex “systems” environment.

  • Reviewing technical designs to ensure they will meet the fully qualified package of business requirements.

  • Providing technical configuration services for both operations and project initiatives.

  • Understanding and following professional IT practices within the Systems Delivery Life Cycle.

  • Meeting business users’ needs by providing long term solutions beyond specific problem resolution.

  • Developing and execution of system testing plans and test cases to validate the system and process solutions to a package of business requirements.

  • Coordination and delivery of user acceptance testing of an end-to-end solution to a package of business requirements.

  • Providing technical guidance to business stakeholders, the ETRM Manager, and team members to support strategic and operational objectives aligned with the role.

  • Contributing to financial evaluations of technical solutions, recommending cost-effective approaches that fulfill business requirements.

  • Assisting in disaster recovery and business continuity planning and testing for ETRM applications.

  • Assessing technical solutions based on the financial impact on Capital Power, and recommend ETRM Apps manager on cost effective solutions that meet business needs

  • Providing technical advice to business stakeholders, managers and peers in support of business and strategic goals relevant to the duties of the position.

  • Resolving complex technical problems; apply appropriate trouble-shooting skills and ensure best-practice steps are followed in developing, testing and implementing solutions.

  • Participating in proof of concepts to determine the best fit solution for Capital Power.

  • Contributing input into organization systems solutions that crosses multiple business areas

  • Ensuring correct execution of systems procedures is executed with some checks and balance.

  • Adhering to HSE procedures/rules and standards.

  • Partnering with business units to gather requirements and design effective ETRM application solutions that deliver measurable business value.

  • Engaging with industry peers to stay informed on standards and best practices, enhancing efficiency within the corporate applications framework.

  • Fostering strong relationships with external vendors to communicate Capital Power’s issues and enhancement requests, ensuring timely and effective resolution.

What you will bring to the role:

Education:

  • Diploma or Degree in Computing Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems.
  • Education equivalency may be considered.

Experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience in supporting, developing, and enhancing large-scale corporate applications.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and analyzing complex requirements to implement sound, scalable technical solutions.
  • Experience with the support and maintenance of an ETRM/CTRM system (preferably Allegro Horizon) is an asset.
  • Experience with the support and maintenance of pricing repository systems like ZE/ZEMA is an asset
  • Experience with the maintenance, development, and support of ETRM/CTRM system integrations with external trading platforms and software (ICE, Web Trader, Market ISOs, etc.) is an asset.
  • Understanding of “trade to cash” business process supporting commodity trading business is an asset
  • Understanding of Power, Natural Gas, and Emissions commodity markets throughout North America is an asset.

Technical Skills:

  • System integration and support experience; specifically, for “commercially of the shelf” products
  • System analysis and design experience; specifically, analysis and programming for high availability of corporate systems.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in query writing using Oracle PL/SQL (or equivalent) against a commercial database such as Oracle or SQL Server
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Microsoft .NET C# programming
  • Application testing skills, how to organize and execute a test plan § Ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to peers and business representatives.
  • Customer relationship skills, demonstrated responsiveness, analytical thinking, problem solving, and planning skills are required. § Knowledge of the Systems Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC) including custom-build and commercial off the shelf (COTS) implementation frameworks

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
  • Out-of-business hours and overtime may be required.
  • As required, participation in the on-call rotation schedule.

Additional Details:

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.

Hours of Work: 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week

Union: CSU52 (SEP-IT)

Wage: $57.47
