Detailed Overview
Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for the assessment/evaluation, treatment, education and management of patients/residents requiring physiotherapy, activation therapeutic activities. Delegates components of treatment to assistants/aides.
Responsibilities
- Provides clinical physiotherapy treatment, including assessment, problem identification, setting treatment goals, treatments, and re-evaluation of patients/residents. Educates patients/residents and their families in aspects of the physiotherapy treatment. Obtains patient/resident history from chart review, interviews and observation, as well as information provided at resident conferences and team meetings. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, makes recommendations for treatment to ensure quality patient/resident care.
- Develops and maintains schedules of individual or group physiotherapy treatment sessions in cooperation with other disciplines as necessary.
- Delegates components of treatment to assistants/aides by instructing, observing and monitoring treatment provided to ensure quality patient/resident care. Provides input to the manager for the performance evaluation of assistants/aides.
- Exchanges patient information with colleagues and members of health care team through care plans, direct or written communication, family conferences.
- Maintains patient/resident records, clinical outcome measures and statistical data in accordance with department, facility and professional standards.
- Promotes awareness of good body mechanics through methods such as modeling, acting as a resource, educating patients/residents, families, and other care providers by providing information and answering questions related to physiotherapy.
- Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the physiotherapy service by providing input and feedback to the manager regarding goals, procedures, continuous quality improvement and risk management.
- Attends appropriate medical rounds, conferences, lectures, and meetings as appropriate. Participates in various hospital committees/programs as assigned.
- Participates in interdisciplinary, departmental and professional development to ensure awareness of current developments of evidence based physiotherapy practice.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience
Graduation from an approved Physiotherapy Program. Two (2) years of recent experience or post-graduate training in gerontology, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC. Eligible for membership in the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC).

- Ability to work independently and be self directed in clinical aspects of assigned areas of work.
- Ability to make sound judgements under varying circumstances.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to supervise others.

- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
