JOB OVERVIEW
The Director, Engineering MRE leads a team of engineers focused on driving innovation, reliability, and project-based improvements across engine maintenance, repair, and exchange (MRE) programs, primarily for CFM56 propulsion systems. This role provides technical and strategic leadership to ensure optimal turnaround time, cost efficiency, and regulatory compliance, while supporting the overall performance of the MRE business and introducing new methods and engineering capabilities. The position also works closely with Operations, Quality, Asset Management, and Customer Program teams to drive engineering excellence across FTAI Aviation Canada's exchange and repair programs.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the MRE Engineering Team, with a focus on driving innovation, implementing project-based enhancements, and improving the reliability and performance of CFM56 propulsion systems across engine exchange programs.
- Develop and execute engineering strategies that reduce turnaround times, enhance cost-effectiveness, and support the introduction of new technologies and workscopes, while ensuring full compliance with regulatory and OEM standards.
- Provide hands-on technical support and root cause analysis for complex troubleshooting and performance issues across exchange programs.
- Work in close collaboration with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Customer Support to align technical objectives with business outcomes.
- Lead and support process standardization, Lean Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives across MRE activities.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory authorities (TCCA, FAA, EASA) and OEM specifications, while supporting the integration of new engineering methods and technologies that uphold engine reliability, airworthiness, and traceability across exchange programs.
- Develop and maintain KPIs to track engineering performance, turnaround time, and cost targets.
- Support technical liaison with OEMs and third-party vendors to resolve and trouble shoot engineering -related issues.
- Develop technical documentation including deviation justifications, workscopes and engineering procedures.
- Oversee departmental budget and resource allocation in line with corporate and operational priorities.
- Mentor and develop engineering staff to build a high-performing, cross-functional team.
- Outline and establish Engineering department progression plan
- Support customer-facing activities by providing technical input in proposals, meetings, and solution development for MRE offerings.
- Represent Engineering in executive reviews, meetings, and technical audits
- Participate in evaluation of advanced technologies and equipment to improve in-house capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience in aerospace/MRO environments, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
- Strong background in CFM56 engine maintenance, repair processes, and exchange programs.
- Proven ability to lead engineering projects in a regulated, high-reliability environment.
- Demonstrated experience with regulatory requirements and technical investigations.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments.
Assets and Qualifications:
- Direct experience with propulsion systems and asset lifecycle management.
- Experience in troubleshooting aircraft engine findings during repair or test, as well as MRE operations.
- Familiarity with engine performance analysis or reliability engineering.
Linguistic Requirements:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and French.
