As a Waste Diversion Specialist, you will support the implementation of Calgary's Multifamily Waste Management and Reduction Strategy and Food and Organic Waste Strategy. Primary duties include:

  • Lead or support the implementation of strategy actions focused on improving waste diversion and food waste reduction in multifamily residences, including pilot programs, service expansions, and campaigns.
  • Provide regular support and build collaborative relationships with multifamily property managers and building owners to improve accessibility of recycling and organics diversion, in alignment with bylaw requirements.
  • Empower Calgarians to reduce wasted food at home by supporting the development and delivery of behaviour change campaigns and targeted messaging.
  • Support school boards, food service businesses, and organizations in implementing food waste reduction and diversion initiatives.
  • Prepare and maintain all program related documents and reports, including compiling and analyzing data to evaluate program performance and customer impacts.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to internal and external interested parties, including community organizations, industry partners, and City leadership.
  • Issue procurement documents and administer contracts in support of identified projects and programs.
  • Collaborate with field staff operating in various waste diversion programs to identify and implement opportunities for improvement and optimization.
  • Liaise with members of the public, contractors, City business units, and elected officials to address and resolve issues related to waste diversion programs.

Qualifications

  • A degree in a related field and at least 5 years of relevant project or program management experience directly related to solid waste management or a related industry is required.
  • The ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit is required.
  • Previous experience with contract management and public relations will be considered assets.
  • The successful candidate will possess the ability to work independently while also building and maintaining professional relationships and partnerships.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills are necessary to optimize program effectiveness.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Such arrangements are based on the operational requirements of the position and employee suitability and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Position Type: 2 Temporary (up to 23 months)

Location: 480 36 Avenue SE

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $47.01 - 62.84 per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
