Location: St. John’s, NL

Job Type: Full-Time

Type: Non-union

We’re looking for a dedicated Accountant to step into a brand-new role that supports our evolving organization. If you’re motivated to make a meaningful impact and want your accounting skills to truly matter, this is your opportunity. Join us and help shape the future...your expertise could help us, help others.

Who We Are

At The Gathering Place, we’re more than a community health center. We’re a lifeline! Every day, we serve hundreds of individuals who are navigating homelessness, poverty, and crisis. Our work is grounded in compassion, dignity, and practical support, and behind it all, we need strong systems, smart people, and financial clarity. That’s where you come in.

As the Accountant, you’ll be the first to hold this role in-house, helping to define how financial operations support our evolving mission. This is your chance to be part of something bigger: an inclusive, mission-driven workplace that believes in people, in second chances, and operates with integrity.

What You’ll do:

  • Keep our financial operations running smoothly (payables, receivables, ledgers, reconciliations)

  • Lead the charge on reporting including monthly, annual, and funder-specific

  • Track grants and donations with care, making sure every dollar is accounted for in accordance with CRA guidelines

  • Support payroll, benefits, CRA filings, audits, and budgeting with integrity and insight

  • Collaborate with our leadership team and program managers to strengthen sustainability and impact

  • Liaise with our current outsourced accounting services contractor, who will continue to be responsible for some services

  • Liaise with the internal leadership and management team, including those currently managing aspects of our employee benefit programs (e.g., Director of HR, Manager of Development, etc.)

What We’re Looking For:

  • A diploma or degree in accounting or finance (bonus if you’re CPA-designated or working on it)

  • 3–5 years of experience, ideally in nonprofit or community work

  • Strong working knowledge of fund accounting, grant management, Excel and other software

  • Someone who’s detail-oriented but sees the bigger picture and wants to be part of it!

Why This Role Matters:

We’re in an exciting period of growth. With new partnerships, a unionized workforce, and evolving programs, our financial systems need to grow with us. You’ll play a key role in helping us scale responsibly, transparently, and with heart.

This is more than a job. It’s a chance to use your skills in service of something meaningful. We offer a competitive compensation and benefits plan, along with opportunities for growth, flexibility, and the satisfaction of knowing your work contributes to a greater purpose.

Vulnerable Sector Check required.
