About the role
Our client is seeking a Manager, Research Informatics to lead the delivery of IT and informatics services that support a cutting-edge research environment. This role focuses on overseeing the infrastructure that enables scientific computing, research data storage, and analysis — with HPC experience considered a strong asset.
You will be responsible for managing a team of informatics and IT infrastructure professionals, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of platforms that power data-intensive research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Guide the direction of research IT services, aligning infrastructure and informatics capabilities with scientific goals.
- Infrastructure Oversight: Manage research informatics platforms including data storage, compute infrastructure, and data processing pipelines.
- Technology Planning: Evaluate emerging technologies to support AI/ML, data capture, analysis, and research data lifecycle management.
- Team Management: Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary technical team responsible for research support, systems maintenance, and enhancements.
- Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve operations, streamline workflows, and implement best practices.
- Cybersecurity & Compliance: Ensure systems align with industry standards for security and data integrity.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal research teams and external partners to understand needs and deliver technical solutions.
- Vendor & Budget Management: Handle vendor negotiations, hardware/software procurement, and budget oversight.
- Communication: Provide clear reporting and updates on service levels, infrastructure health, and strategic progress to leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, health informatics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in research informatics or infrastructure leadership roles.
- Strong experience managing scientific data platforms , research data infrastructure , and storage systems .
- Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) is an asset, but not mandatory.
- Exposure to AI/ML infrastructure , data pipeline design , or data-intensive clinical research environments .
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of data capture , governance , and sharing protocols in a scientific or academic setting.
