POSTING TYPE: SENIOR QUALIFIED PROCESS – ARTICLE 16.02
STATUS: Permanent Part-Time
Hours per week and Schedule of Work: (Hours and Schedule of work are subject to change in accordance with Article 19):
7 hours per week. Saturdays required.
JOB SUMMARY:
To provide a delivery service for the Toronto Public Library system; maintain a delivery vehicle in road-worthy condition and perform other duties.
DUTIES:
Under the supervision of the designated supervisor, and working within a team structure, this position is responsible for:
- operating an automotive commercial vehicle under applicable legislative requirements as described in the City of Toronto Fleet Policy
- loading and unloading the vehicle of boxes, equipment or materials at the various Library facilities or other locations
- checking load against shipping papers or work orders
- following pre-arranged routes to designated branches, departments or other locations
- picking up boxes and other items, sorting mail and/or material addressed to other locations into the appropriate container
- performs induction, sweeping, loading functions associated with the central sorter
- monitors and troubleshoots sorter problems and sorting exceptions
- check item status against the library database for transit information
- making recommendations to the designated supervisor for adjustments in the service
- cleaning the interior of the vehicle
- arranging for fuelling and other servicing of the vehicle
- inspecting the vehicle for fluid levels, wear, damage or malfunction; reporting defects to the designated supervisor
- performing other duties, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of Ontario Grade 10 education or equivalent
-
Minimum of one year work experience
-
Driver's licence (Class "G") in good standing
-
Experience in driving a commercial vehicle*
-
Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance
-
Knowledge of City of Toronto traffic rules and regulations
-
Effective communications skills
-
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff
Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting boxes of books, supplies and equipment received or shipped. -
A commercial vehicle is defined by the Ministry of Transportation as weighing more than 4,500 Kilograms and experience in driving a commercial vehicle refers to experience under the Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) program.
If your vehicle is plated in Ontario, the United States or Mexico, you need a CVOR for:
- Trucks with a registered gross weight (RGW) over 4,500 kg, including trucks with farm licence plates
