Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Operations Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for preparing standard and therapeutic menu items following standardized recipes. Documents forecast variations and waste accurately. Reports product quality concerns to Operations Coordinator. Must be capable of organizing and prioritizing assigned tasks within set service times. Adheres to all safety and health regulations and safe work practices. Participates in departmental continuous quality improvement program. May provide direction to staff assisting with food preparations.

Experience

  • Minimum of one-year institutional cooking experience required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Successful completion of a two year post-secondary commercial or institutional cooking program required (e.g. Red River College, Culinary Arts).

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Successful completion of a recognized food handling course (i.e., Food Handler’s certificate) is required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English both oral and written.
  • Must be capable of organizing and prioritizing assigned tasks within set service time.

Physical Requirements

  • Position involves bending, reaching, standing and walking for long periods of time and lifting of moderate weights.
  • Exposure to temperature variations and noise.

More than 8,000 staff, physicians and volunteers care for patients. Highly-skilled interdisciplinary teams provide complex, specialist (“tertiary”) acute care, including diagnostic, outpatient and inpatient services to adults and children across Manitoba, north-western Ontario and Nunavut.

HSC is a Shared Health facility, and is Manitoba’s provincial tertiary centre for trauma, transplants, burns, neurosciences, complex cancer care and pediatric care. Every clinical hospital-based service available in the province is offered at HSC, with the exception of cardiac surgery and eye surgery. This means the majority of Manitobans’ tertiary care is provided here, regardless of which community our patients call home.
